It comes on here at 0300-0600. We watch from 0445-0600 as we're getting ready for work. E.D. was great - she ripped that jerk a new one.
You can begin by informing them that the (vehemently) dissenting opinion was written by Judge Fernandez, one of the two Republican (Bush 1)appointees, and that other concurring vote was by Judge Reinhardt, a Carter nominee.
As Freeper deport has pointed out the makeup of the Senate when the other Republican (Goodwin/Nixon) was confirmed was: Democrats --- 54; Republicans -- 44; Independents -- 1; Conservative -- 1 -- obviously making it difficult to get a truly conservative judge appointed, so it would be safe to assume that Goodwin is not conservative.
As others have pointed out, Goodwin was called back from retirement due to the shortage of judges caused by Dashchle's open and avowed refusal to confirm Bush's judicial nominees.
You may also want to read the dissenting opinion by Judge Fernandez, the other Republican nominee posted posted here by Freeper, Constitution Day.
Let me say one other thing Mr. Robinson.
I know you are using the word 'liberal' in the sense that it is the common usage for describing what we here know to be the left wing.
These people are as far from being 'liberal' in any classic sense of the word.
They are totalitarians, ruling by fiat; stuffing the courts with like minded drones who will legislate whatever they see fit from the bench.
Thank you. I am so grateful for the firm position you have taken on this crucial issue and for the positive suggestions. We need to replace both Senators from my state but especially the jr Senator,Mary Landrieu. She is a young Hillary in the making with the money and backing of the old democratic party machine here. Right now the chances of defeating her aren't looking too good.
Thanks for the Ping, Mo. :)
The Religious Freedom Coalition is a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration of religious freedom in the United States as envisioned by the authors of the Constitution. William J. Murray, founder and chairman, came naturally to an interest in religious freedom and the moral crisis facing our nation. He was the plaintiff of record in the 1963 landmark Supreme Court case that outlawed school prayer and Bible reading.
The 9th circuit handed the Republicans a gift in its decision.
Haway the Lads, Jim!
This is a gift for us! Let the clueless clowns over at Lew Rockwell Dot Com cheer on this decision. It strikes at the heart of an American Institution. Indeed, this could become the political equivalent of the 1994 Baseball Strike.
Outstanding.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
And how many honestly believe that child's beliefs would be respectfully honored in the 'public school' environment?
To draft a Constitutional Amendment requiring recital, in this current form, would be a travesty; and the ruling is proper, if it only bars mandatory recitation. If anyone wishes to voluntarily recite the Pledge, more power to them. If I want to (as someone did earlier in the thread) post here, "God Bless America.", I can do that; but to require attendance, and require and/or enforce recitation, would be contrary to the intent of the Constitution.
Would I be thrown out of the Supreme Court, or Congress, were I to refuse to close my eyes and bow my head during their morning prayer? If so, that, too, would be a mockery of the individual liberty the Constitution is designed to protect.
You could ask John Robinson... :o)
As for the liberal university thing, one way to protest this is just by not sending one's kids to a public university. Private Universities, especially Christian ones, are well worth the extra money.
Personally, I hope all this unconservative garbage we see from the administration has it's roots in an attempt to buy back our damn Senate. And while I may not agree with the methods, it's impossible to argue with the motive.
