How could they know what the odometer reading was before the kidnapping? Had he very recently renewed insurance or registration, requiring him to record the odometer reading?

From what I knew, the car is still registered to the Smart family...they never transferred ownership, Mr Smart "forgot about it", even though if anything happened, the Smart family is liable.

Surprised to learn that the SLPD was AT THEIR HOUSE 12 HOURS AFTER THE ABDUCTION!!

That would explain why Ricci told others he thought he would be questioned 30 hrs after the abduction.

Mr Smart "forgot about it"

Really? Are you sure? Does that strike you as odd? I am the most forgetful person in the world (my family would howl in affirmation!), but I am VERY conscious of liability issues. I bugged my husband constantly until he changed the title of his car to his son. Mr. Smart is a very successful businessman and, especially in his line of business, he has to be quite conscious of details and liability issues. Either that could speak to his lack of detail in business matters or to his being preoccupied by those issues to the point of negligance. What am I missing here?

Yes, is in the back threads..Certainly DOES strike me and others as more than ODD. Check out the back threads, there's a lot of discussion on this.

".....however, where has he been this entire time instead of crawling out from under the rock now?"

Go back and look at the very first sketch that the police released in this case. It was a sketch of a man "wanted for questioning"......he had a missing front tooth, a ruddy complexion, and was described as possibly wearing a red beret and an earring. I think this man was Thurber!

Several days after the sketch was released, police said that the man had come in voluntarily and had been cleared of suspicion. If he was Ricci's next door neighbor, surely the police knew who he was and where to find him. Was his sketch released just to spook Ricci? Or is there something else afoot here?

(Can someone post that sketch on here? I don't know how.......sighhhhhh)

One thing that bothers me with Ricci's story is how they could have gone to the wrong temple for the baptism. Seems that if this was so important to him to take off work, he would have known where the ceremony was to happen. And to miss it completely just smells bad.

It is my understanding that the car title was transferred sometime in September or October......several months after Ricci got the car. I agree that delaying the transfer of title was unwise at best.......suspicious at worst. Why would Ed Smart allow this man to drive a car that was still in his name?

, I agree with you that since this was a planned crime, the criminal probably had Elizabeth's destination in mind long before

We can only hope!

In earlier reports, LE have said that Ricci has moved to the top of the "List". What "List" ???

1.) Ricci
2.) Edmunds

I am almost 100% sure Ed Smart said that Ricci called him and came and got the title back in Sept...but not sure if it was Sept2000 or Sept2001

The other Ricci relationship that bothers me a bit is that of the Shriner Hospital's night watchman. Watched him on FNC last night and was very impressed with him. His attention to, and memory of, detail was amazing. He was incredibly articulate, so much so that I wondered why he would be working as a night watchmen anywhere. The man was clearly educated, intelligent and quick on his feet. He also knew Ricci personally from the prison when he worked there as a guard. Interesting! I would have guessed that he was a lawyer or PR person instead. Or once again, is this just me?

About Ricci's "scheduled day off"......I could be wrong, but it is my impression that Ricci's work schedule was determined by his employer. I don't know that Ricci had specifically asked to have this day off.

Questions

On Greta last night, Mrs. Recci, said she was in bed with her husband , but he went to sleep at 10:30, and she watched t.v. until around 1 or 1:30. . She said he was there in bed when she awoke. O.K. fine.

This may be way out there, but I don't see Recci as being the perp. How many miles is it from his house to the Smart home? Didn't they say that she was taken around 1:30 a.m.? How did he (if his wife is telling the truth) get from his house to the Smart home, enter, find Elizabeth, avoid any noise, wait for her to get her shoes on, keep MK quiet with threat to E., remove her from the home, hide her, or kill her, and drive back to his house, risk his wife being awake, risk a neighbor being up going to the bathroom and notice his car gone, crawl back in bed, and BE THERE at 6:30 ??

I am not a devote' of The N.E. at all, but this publication DOES NOT print this bombshell and then just drop it. I bet they will drip, drip, drip, it out over the next weeks. $$$$$ will be great doing it drop by drop while they continue to gather.

Mr. and Mrs. Smart, WERE SICK YESTERDAY? THE DAY OF THE GRAND JURY????Now, I know, I am going off half cocked here, but isn't that something? Were THEY called to testify? I haven't heard. They could very well be exhausted. But if in fact the N.E. is rght on SOME counts here, there could be a much bigger thing going on than we can even imagine. This whole thing does not add up as one bit logical, and most professional talking heads, agree.

It looks to me, and I am probably wrong, that the tiny little tidbits leaked out to the press, is a giant stall to set in concrete a HUGE, HORRIBLE BIG THING.

I wondered about that too. He worked at a nursery, which are usually open 7 days a week, many hours a day. Days and hours for employees in that type of situation are often rotated to be fair to everyone. Unless LE specifically stated that he asked for that day off, I would not assume it. OTOH, they do seem to be holding him, and convening the fed grand jury, for things they know that we don't!

I am assuming that there is some truth to the NE story. I just hope that it doesn't turn out to affect this case. But if it's true, it certainly could. However, I am not surprised that both Smarts were sick. I don't see how they can stand up these days! They've done incredibly well, IMOH, with all this. And they have five other children to care for.

Reports that I have read said that he asked for the day off for his step-son's baptism, but they missed the ceremony when they went to the wrong temple. Again this sounds fishy to me.

But Smith says he was at home with his wife and stepson and two LDS missionaries

Hmmmmmmmm. Let's hope this doesn't turn into a Mormon bashing free-for-all. Oh, I forgot; too late.

Police maintain Ricci's alibi for the night before Elizabeth dissapeared is questionable. But Smith says he was at home with his wife and stepson and two LDS missionaries.

"Mr. Ricci's stepson, her son, was being taught a missionary lesson for the LDS Church. He was preparing to be baptized."

What bothers me about this statement is that is sounds like the missionaries spent the night at the mobile home and that this statement is being made by Ricci's attorney. Maybe these 2 "so called" missionaries where Ricci's partners in the kidnapping. I wonder now if the police know about these 2 visitors or guest in the Ricci home and if they have they looked into them?

As far as the odometer reading... he may have had some work done on the Jeep recently and they recorded the miles on the work order or the cops again took a peek at the Jeep the first day they visited him and discovered that 1000 miles had been put on the Jeep between the first time they visited him and got the Jeep impounded.
