24 hours that have passed since Elizabeth was kidnapped. Elizabeth was taken from her home
at about 1:30am on the morning of June 5th, 2002.

Short Timeline

June 4th, 2002 - Tuesday
~ Ricci is at work from about 9am to 5:30pm
~ Ricci claims he spends the evening with friends

June 5th,2002 - Wednesday
~ 1:05am - 2 cars are spotted on the SLC Shriner's Hospital Parking Lot by a hospital security guard
~ 1:30am (approx) - Elizabeth is kidnapped from her home
~ 1:30am - Ricci claims to be in bed asleep with his with wife.
~ Ricci is scheduled to be off work all day today.
~ 8:30am - Ricci and his neighbor talk about the kidnapping of Elizabeth, Ricci seems to know too much information about it.
~ Sometime during this day Ricci is visited by police in regards to Elizabeth's kidnapping as reported by Angela Ricci (Richard A. Ricci's Wife which is an ex-convict herself)
~ Ricci is seen by his neighbor digging a hole by his (Ricci's) trailer early in the morning. (heard the neighbor say this on TV)

June 6th, 2002 - Thursday
~ Ricci is scheduled to work from 9am to 5:30pm today, but instead works from 10:30am to 7:00pm
~ Police talk to Ricci this day about the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping. (The media is reporting this, so it could be wrong)

June 14th, 2002 - Friday
~ Ricci is taken into custody for a parole violation, this being the 2001 robbery of the Smart Home in which he admitted to.



A note to the people who read this thread because they hope and pray that Elizabeth will be returned to her family and who wish to stay up to date with the facts in the case. Please do not let yourself get sucked into a heavy discussion or argument from someone who wishes to come in to this thread and makes a post that will disrupt this thread. Also, the police have expanded their search to a 500 mile radius due to Ricci's odometer indicating he travelled 1,000 miles during some period of time around the kidnapping.

That's very interesting, if true. I'm wondering if Ricci was able to explain all the mileage away. It would definitely complicate his alibi story, if he's involved.

Actually, he had booked the day after the kidnapping off ahead of time, and arranged to some in at 10:30 the day after that. Nobody, including the wife, seems to know why he took that day off.

The cops can only do that in low profile cases. This case will require absolute proof. No one will be let off the hook here.

Ricci's odometer

I am curious how the police would know what his odometer readings would be before the abduction?

do parolee's have to submit to mileage checks with their probation officers?

or, did the police just check Ricci's odometer the day they investigated him, on the 5th, and then recheck him several days later when they arrested him?

The girl's name is Elizabeth. There are less offensive ways to express your belief that Elizabeth is dead than the terms you used. Just out of curiosity, if she's dead, who do you believe killed her?

Do I take this to mean that they still believe that Elizabeth is, or could be, alive?

I wonder if this means Ricci and possibly his wife, or do they suspect that someone else they've already talked to has a hand in this? LE said initially that they believed Ricci was part of a larger scenerio. Maybe I just want to be optimistic, but I do see signs of hope here.

It seems obvious to me. It would be more incriminating to claim you definitely know where someone else was during a stretch of several hours when you were sound asleep -- easy for a prosecutor to poke holes in that claim, and thus cast doubt on everything else said by the same witness. Elizabeth was taken from her bed only a few feet from where her parents were sleeping, but her parents didn't know about it until MK told them a couple of hours later. A guy enters the house, takes Elizabeth out, MK briefly gets up -- all with the parents remaining sound asleep.

How could they know what the odometer reading was before the kidnapping? Had he very recently renewed insurance or registration, requiring him to record the odometer reading?

Thurber says he is Richard Ricci's neighbor and his friend. But as he left federal court, he told reporters the morning Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped, Ricci started working on Thurber's trailor home, uninvited.

I saw this Thurber character on Fox this am..Above says he's his neighbor AND friend, then says he started working on his trailer UNINVITED. I don't know about you, but, something doesn't set right w/ me about him. You can tell he's uneducated, might want to get his 5min of face because he lives next door, etc.., however, where has he been this entire time instead of crawling out from under the rock now? For some reason, I have doubt that Ricci did it..If I'm wrong, which I might be, and watching the current scenario, who's to say that Thurber is singing Ricci did it, I saw this and that, when Thurber might be involved, trying to blame Ricci exclusively, to keep the heat off him? Something's very strange here especially watching Thurber's actions. Did you see when Thurber walking and being asked questions along the way? He thought he was a star....IMHO
