Can you name five mainstream media outlets, that are conservative? Besides Foxnews and Wall Street Journal, good luck. Click here, and watch Katie Couric blame the death of Matthew Shepard on Christian conservatives:

Ain't that the truth, my FRiend?!! The Clinton-ization of the DemonRAT Party has become one of the defining moments in American history, wherein an entire political Party--representing allegedly 40-45% of the American voting populace--enthusiastically allowed a Felon, a Rapist, a Conspirator to Mass-Murder, a Traitor, and a ruthless Tyrant to continue to despoil the highest elected office in the Greatest Nation in the History of the World!!

Oh yes, my friend, WHAT YOU SAID!!!! And ya know mudboy-I think that whuppin is going to shock the socks off many, many arrogant and vile liberal jerks.

To Cate: Here's a link to a recent editorial which referred to the conservative Virginia state republicans as "Taliban Republicans" - the moderates were referred to as the "Pragmatic" Republicans. It appeared in the mainstream press - the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot as an unsigned editorial. Can't get more mainstream than that. And the V-P is considered by liberals in this town (the local alternative freebie newspaper Portfolio) as a conservative paper! See http://www.pilotonline.com/opi nion/op0615bye.html.

I have never seen them refer to the leftwing of the Democratic party as, say, the Trokskyite Democrats.

There's lots more examples at MRC. Miss Coulter and Bernard Goldberg are onto something. It's time for a little reform in the so-called unbiased mainstream media.

Ann: As for converting them to Christianity, I think it might be a good idea to get them on some sort of hobby other than slaughtering infidels.

Classic !!

Well, we don't know if Mrs. Reagan actually called Couric. Ms. Couric has been evasive in the past - for instance, she has not exactly been up front with her audience about her participation in pro-abortion marches. She also kinda lied today about the number of times her program referred to President Reagan as an airhead. It's also unclear whether Mrs. Reagan saw the "teasers" with the airhead reference. I'd be interested in hearing someone follow up with Nancy Reagan and ask her if she did in fact compliment Ms. Couric and what she thought of the "airhead" hits.

But Couric is only one small piece. I have watched Bryant Gumbel, for instance, pull alot of crap like this against conservatives. They really should examine themselves - I think Coulter and Goldberg have a point here.

I dug up and posted the relevant portions of the original transcripts from the Today show back in September, 99 leading up to and including the appearance of Edmund Morris, the author of Dutch.

Follow this link to the transcripts

Ann Coulter: No you said it one day, Matt Lauer said it another day.

Katie Couric: No, it was just one day and we'll get the transcript for you.

Just a suggestion -- when you guest on the Today show have the transcripts in hand, just in case . . . ;o)

The problem for Katie is, according to the MRC, Katie DID make that statement, and the next day Matt DID make that statement. Katie was deflecting.

Interesting. Even after Morris corrected her, she went back - apparently to her pre-written questions - and asked about Reagan being an airhead!

Advantage... Coulter. Who wiped whom off the floor?

"Define "mainstream news outlets." Do you count conservative daily papers like the Washington Times? There are many dailies in major cities that I would call conservative."

I mean NATIONAL, MAINSTREAM.

"About Couric's supposedly blaming Matthew Shepherd's death on conservative Christians, what she actually says is that "some say" religious zealots created an atmosphere of intolerance blah-blah-blah and asks Richards to comment on that. It's a fact that "some say" exactly that; it was a legitimate topic of discussion."

Pleaaaaaazzzzee. "Some say"? In fact, her question was a political diatribe disguised as a question.

I believe you are correct, my FRiend...I can sense another '94 brewin'!! This "Pledge of Allegiance" decision is a Godsend to conservative candidates, IMHO, and works extremely well in defining the urgency of eliminating Patrick Leahy as an Obstructor of Justice in the Senate!! And the stock market's recent woes merit a significant decrease in the Capital Gains Tax...and the Death Tax ought to be eliminated altogether, today, and forever!!

FReegards...MUD

"Once Couric made those points, Coulter lamely (IMHO) made a mountain out of a molehill over the use of the word "apparent." Score one for Katie, I say."

"Good morning. The Gipper was an airhead! That’s one of the conclusions of a new biography of Ronald Reagan that’s drawing a tremendous amount of interest and fire today, Monday, September the 27th, 1999." — Opening the show, September 27, 1999.

Cate,

I think where Couric screwed up is that she attacked Coulter on this quite picayune thing and also went after her based on a column she wrote after her good friend died in the Pentagon airplane attack.

What Couric should have questioned is whether Coulter actually supported her charge of slander or if in fact the obvious bias of her show is in fact intentional or, as Bernard Goldberg opines, a sort of accidental ignorant bias that just comes from not getting out and meeting true conservatives. Not having read Coulter's book, I can't make my own judgement - slander suggests predisposition to lie and distort the facts when I think its more just ignorance and a rather incurious view of the country outside liberal enclaves.
