Couric's and NBC's credibility was actually on the line here, and not some ridiculous cooking segment or an insult-the-intelligence-of-the-audience-stint-again regarding Lesbian Single Parents of Vertically Challenged Women of Color. People were acutally watching this time, and they knew it. I will agree with you that the producers and staff of NBC probably stayed up with Couric nights to make sure she could hold her own with Ann. She still hid behind her rapid fire, change the subject, "I am doing the interview here!" bag of tricks, didn't she?

What Couric said in the 1999 lead-in to the interview with Morris was that MORRIS called Reagan an airhead

What is obvious to anyone who wishes to be honest here is that Couric did that cheap quote as an introduction to the Today show to slam Reagan. Read the post here where Morris actually denied it in his interview with Couric in 1999, and then Katie gets to repeat her slanderous question again, just to get her claws in.
