That statement is puzzling. Of course a statement similar to that could be very innocent - my dad used to say he was gonna give me "little pills" to keep me his little girl - and I'm always amazed (and a bit saddened at times) to see how fast my little boy is growing. That said - if I was talking to someone - I might say something like - "yeah - my kids are growing up so fast - they don't stay little for long" or alot of variations on that - but why say that my husband didn't like it that my daughter was growing up - it just strikes me as odd.

Because it was in the context of saying that Damon was taking Danielle to a father/daughter dance. Exactly the sort of small talk one engages in with someone they don't know very well----"Oh, my husband is taking our daughter to her first dance. It's a father/daughter dance. He thinks she growing up too fast." Sounds like parental chitchat to me.
