Really who did it isn't the question before the jury. The jury presumes the innocence of Westerfield, and then answers the question as to whether the facts and testimony presented before them consitutes a finding beyond any reasonable doubt that Westerfield murdered Danielle.
If anyone has to make a case, it is the prosecution -- that is what presumed innocent means.
