How can they tell by looking/visually inspecting. if hair has been cut recentlyClean, blunt ends, no splits or frizzies--would be my guess.

I'm sorry..they didn't find color treated hair, they were looking for color treated hair. It was one of a list of characteristics they were looking for.but didn't find any so far.

Thanks..it just seems surprising to me..how many 7yr olds have split ends ?? (I'm thinking of my own kid's hair..never had split ends..)

color treated hair BVD????She said the hair was NOT color treated.
First I heard of hair in MH shower drain, as well as MH sink. Lot more hair in his laundry, lint, sheets in house than previously known, plus MH pillow plus other areas.

Similar to Danielle van Dam. Carpet fibers found in MH match carpet from her room, as well.

comparing evidence fiber to known fibers..explaining procedures..
Conclusion....came from danielle's bedroom.
Further testing..took to another lab. Somethign spectrometer It can give info about coloring and if it's same fiber.

I think you missed the point. I was not necessarily talking about cross contamination. I was talking about INDEPENDENT labs versus the same person wearing various hats.
What do you suppose the reason is for emphasizing INDEPENDENT if it doesn't really matter? I'm just curious.

Just to clarify, I don't think they've given a definitive on the hair. May not be able to, but she examined visually, measured evidence plus known hair from Danielle (obtained at autopsy), tested for color, etc. and sent off to lab for further analysis.

WOW! Micro carpet photos were amazing. Differences between Danielle's carpet and Westerfield's house and motor home carpets are significant. He's toast.
