Re your post #34. My pleasure. I also meant to post this one for you, as this is a great example of a public school focusing on the basics, since most students here do not even speak English as a first language - yet, these students' reading scores [for reading in English] are soaring:

completely debunks the idea of teaching the kids in their native language. Immersion in English is the key here, I think.
