We could stop illegal immigration tomorrow if we went after the employers aggressively. But we won't.You've hit that one right on the head. Employment is the key, but neither of the two major parties are interested in taking the kind of actions against employers which would be effective. Too many employers and industries are reaping huge short-term benefits from the employment of illegal immigrants and the general public is not yet sufficiently concerned to insist on aggressive policies against them.

Maybe. But this is proposing further burdening our already over-burdened private sector with even more federal restrictions and bureaucracy. Are you proposing giving the feds even more power than they already have? To allow them to make armed raids on our factories and small businesses? Allow them to suspend the fourth amendment?
The Congress has the power to regulate immigration and I can see setting reasonable immigration quotas and strengthening our borders, etc, but I do not buy into more federal power or conducting federal raids of private businesses, and or Janet Reno style armed swat teams dragging suspected illegals out of their domiciles.
