I don't foresee an openly communist candidate ever being voted into any level office in the US. My point is that being free means allowing even those ideologies that we do not believe in to exist.

What about Bernie Sanders, then?
Bernie isn't the only socialist in Congress,
but he's openly socialist,
which to me is a synonym for communist.
There's a marked difference between socialista and communists.
