In Iowa, we will be building two new coal fired plants in the next 5-10 years. Rec'd approval to build one by Des Moines and in Council Bluffs (across river from Omaha, Nebraska).

Good for Iowa. We should be building more plants that use coal mined in the US. We should not be building gas turbine plants that use natural gas that is better used for home heating and chemical feedstock purposes than for electrical generation.

I don't know about Iowa's power needs, but two new power plants for the state in the next 10 years doesn't seem like enough to me.

We need 1500 additional plants in the country within the next 20 years. California is doing its best to make sure they're not built in their state or across the border in Mexico.

So, who's going to build them?

Make that a possible third in the SE by Alliant, somewhere between Ottumwa and Keokuk.
