Vanity - Strange E-Mail I received, should I report it? (refers to Allah and hidden money)

This is a variation of the Nigerian scam.

Report it to the FBI. I received one similar, called our local office..I had to fax them a copy of the original message, and all the other messages that was sent..They need this info so they can follow these trails for prosecution.

Yes, it can hurt. A significant fraction of the email on the internet is the Nigerian scam. The FBI knows all about it already, and they have much more important work to do. If everyone who received one of these reported it to the FBI, the important tips would end up lost in the maelstrom.

They need this info so they can follow these trails for prosecution.

The info is not needed because there won't be any prosecutions. The trails lead to places like Nigeria, Liberia and the Ivory Coast, where such scams aren't against the law. Let the FBI work on counterterrorism instead.

I totally agree.

Probably 80-100 million people have gotten this e-mail or something like it. And the FBI knows all about the Nigerian scam, and nothing in the e-mail is going to be the key to cracking the case. Whatever poor agent is saddled with looking at your report of this e-mail has already GOTTEN this e-mail, probably, on his or her home computer. And there's very little they can do about it. Reporting it will just contribute to the sort of information noise that causes the NSA to record a conversation and translate it several days later.

You are most probably aware that for centuries great herds of naugas roamed freely across the Great Plains. Having no enemies, these beautiful little animals were very beneficial to the environment and greatly helped farmers in the areas where they live.

Then, the furniture manufacturers began harvesting the poor little naugas for their hides. As we became an information processing society rather than actually producing something tangible and our state and federal goverments increasingly grew in size, more and more offices have been created.

(Remember how every new president looks us in the eye and very solemnly promises to decrease the size of the White House staff and government, in general... yadda, yadda, yuck, yuck, yuck.)

This has massively increased the demand for naugahyde, especially by overseas companies who strip the poor naugas for waiting room furniture coverings and then eat the little naugas raw.

You can do something! YES, YOU!

I've gotten at least a dozen of these e-mails, all from different people. I'm absolutely amazed at the number of people in Nigeria who have hundreds of millions of dollars that need to be exported, and all to my bank account! Man, that land must be flowing with milk and honey!

The one I got was from some Patrick Soko from Senegal, and his father, a general murdered in some bloody battle, left him 8.5 million.

And his family would be happy to give me 10% of that money if only I would give him my bank account number so he could transfer all 8.5 million to it, to get it out of his country. (Oh, yes, I immediately gave him my number...sure...)
