I just gor back from Salt Lake. There is a WILD rumor floating around town that the father staged the kidnapping so that he could receive the ransom. Aparently, Elizabeth's father is not exactly well regarded in the community.

I just got back from SLC earlier this evening, and heard the opposite, that the Smarts are very well regarded in their neighborhood and community.

Who would the father recieve a ransom from, I assumed he would be the one to pay it.

The NE story stated that there was a diary detailing homosexual activity by the Dad and the two uncles. Also said that things aren't exactly as they seem Spent a good deal of time emphasizing the strange behaviour by the family when the girl was first discovered missing---instead of calling police they called friends and neighbors

Have you heard how he makes or made his money? UG, I think I'm getting very cynical and leary in my old age. I also heard he failed his polygraph test. I think much of the spin on this is being done to protect the church.

What fricken ransom money. There never has been a ransom demand. The smarts are pretty well off aparently anyway. There's no way the father staged this. Another family member could be involved but not the mother or father imo.

They might not tell us about ransom demands. I think it's the most likely senareo, but I don't think it's family.
The mother's father just died (2 days before?), I wonder if he was wealthy. We should be able to find an obit.
