Gosh, I didn't hear about Cornyn going to a pro Muslim rally. Must have been pretty low key. I agree he kinda blends into the background but I have read some of the decisions he has made as Attorney General and some of them have really pissed off the liberals so he's o.k. in my book.

Yes, the time is right to focus on the November election. We don't have to abandon discussion of issues, especially with the naysayers. But I do believe that the Senate is the goal that all of us should focus on.

Well, I didn't hear about Coryn and the Muslim rally ... that would have been a big mistake if he did it.

However, the Austin American has been running some stories about Muslim connections with Kirk (he employs a guy with some sort of terrorist connections and he got contributions from questionable groups.)

I tried to find a source for the Cornyn appearance at Texas Stadium and came up empty handed, but I *know I saw something about this on the news. Best I can recall, there was a Muslim event that Cornyn and his wife both attended recently, maybe around Memorial Day. Or possibly I've lost my mind!

Okay, off to search for Kirk and Muslims. Possibly my memory is incorrect on this. Do you recall anything about a Muslim event at Texas Stadium to promote a more positive image of Islam recently?

I don't think you lost your mind. LOL I just can't believe it wasn't widely reported. But then again, the demos are a little fearful of playing that particular race card, I think. Unless they are holding it in check to produce closer to the election. You know how they are!

Perry is still ahead but there was in one poll a 10 point drop by Perry. And I live in Houston and you see Sanchez ads all over but not much on Perry.

Kirk was the one who was written up in the Austin American statesman newspaper ( it was found somewhere on free republic) in that he got contributions or that one of his staff had ties to terrorists. Here I go, trying to be informative but instead I am probably spreading bad rumors. However, something about terrorists and donations.Kirk is mayor of Dallas and he appears to be popular. Hope he doesn't win.

W's poll numbers remained unchanged last week -- much to the chagrin of the liberal media (who ignored them) and the liberals (who were hoping the market's tailspin and the Middle East insanity would damage the president).

COMMENT: I'm still astounded by the President's extremely low disapproval numbers -- only 14% among registered voters! In these extremely turbulent times, W's LIKABILITY is serving him well. As CBS/NY Times discovered, 6 in 10 voters (same % of independents/slightly higher % of women) believe President Bush cares about them unlike others including members of his own administration who were rated almost 20 points lower in the 'caring' category. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!

I honestly think the only way Kirk can win is through fraud and we know that the democrats are not above padding the ballot boxes, especially in Houston and down south.

Well George Bush Sr was President and now George W. Bush. Father and son. That's something in and of itself right there. To have Jeb (Gov of Florida) come next would be too much to ask but...we can always hope can't we?

Bingo, I found it. I was mistaken about Cornyn's presence. His wife attended in his place. From The Dallas Morning News:

......Mr. Wasiq spent Sunday with about 7,000 Muslims who gathered in Irving for what organizers dubbed the Muslim Ballot Box Barbeque.

Its leaders hoped the event would register several thousand Muslims to vote and impress upon politicians and the media that Muslim Americans are a political force to be reckoned with.

Organizers said the event – the first in Texas – succeeded because of the fallout, both positive and negative, from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

"America has engaged in a colossal conversation about Islam," said Agha Saeed, the national chairman of the American Muslim Alliance. "We are not looking at this [event] as a finished product, but as a continuing process."

Ideally, Dr. Saeed said, Muslims would form a bloc of swing voters who could influence the outcome of close elections. Community groups would meet and consider the candidates and ballot propositions and decide which to endorse.

And because Muslims tend to be independent voters, campaigns could not ignore them, Dr. Saeed said. In the process, Muslims would learn more about the American political system, and Americans would learn more about Muslims.

"News is being made now by extremists of every creed and color," said Moazam F. Syed of Fort Worth, an event organizer. "The moderates, who are the movers and shakers in all walks of life, have not been given a stage. This is the attempt to give them a stage."

Dozens of Muslim leaders and candidates took that stage Sunday. Between the candidates and their well-rehearsed spiels, Muslim leaders led the crowd in chants such as: "I am a Muslim. I am American. I vote."

Several major candidates in the November elections did not attend Sunday's event, although many sent representatives.

Sandy Cornyn, the wife of the Republican Senate candidate John Cornyn, spoke at the event, organizers said. Ron Kirk, Mr. Cornyn's Democratic rival, sent a deputy campaign manager. You are not kidding--I grew up in Laredo and my grandad had been dead for several years yet someone called wanting to talk to him as they were investigating some voting irregularity. My aunt was upset --she said someone was obviously voting fraudulently with my grandads identity.

In a Texas thread there was a gentlemen who made the comment that he had voted for Howard Phillips and after all the things W had done he was glad he had. When I asked him who was Howard Phillips and why was he writing on a conservative republican thread--he answered that he was a very active republican and was and still is a republican precinct chairman but had not voted for Bush for second term of governor and did not vote for him for President. I asked why was he even bothering to be a republican precinct chairman when he could not even support the top of the list. I am still waiting for his reply. But I have to wonder if these republicans by name get to high positions and can jimmy the votes.

And yes, the southwest is good for a few stuffed ballots. I don't know about Houston.
