Reported By: Joel Thomas
Web Editor: Manav Tanneeru
Last Modified: 6/22/2002 12:22:44 PM

Fulton County police issued a Be On The Lookout, or BOLO, for two men who were observed taking pictures of the aircraft and facilities of Raytheon Aircraft Thursday at the Fulton County Municipal Airport-Charlie Brown Field.

The two men fled when Raytheon employees approached them. The men drove away in a tan PT Cruiser bearing the Canadian tag AMMZ226.

One of the men was described as a white male, about 40 years old, heavy set and standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall. The other was described as simply being about 30 years old.

Fulton County police are asking anyone with information to call (404) 641-7562 or (404) 505-3244.

Your right, of course. I saw Charlie Brown airport and immediately thought Hartsfield, the way that when asked about the New Jersey Devils, Wayne Gretzky thought Mickey Mouse. My bad.

You're right, the liberal disruptors continually trash the Constitution on FR but how do you propose we keep your friends off of this site?

Actually, it is full-speed-ahead GOP/Bushbots that put party and power above the Constitution.

I know of none of my friends who qualify as liberal disruptors.

What did I do to offend you? Is it true that the dog who yelps is the one who got hit?

Charlie Brown is where the Governor and Lt. Governer's planes are kept. There is also an FAA office located there.

Charlie Brown is also right across the river from Six Flags over Georgia.

In terms of potential access to the US by terrorists? Nope. Don't need to think again. Canada's immigration policies are extremely loose.

Both Canada and Mexico represent entirely different situations in terms of border access.

They were both described as men. It's the women who ululate.

Some indiginous women uulate also, at basketball games.

If you could fly to either country, Canada or Mexico, to sneak into the US, which country would you choose?

Canada, of course. Landing in Mexico, you might not make it through the corrupt airport, let alone renting a car and making it through the border.

The Saudi muslim terrorists who infiltrate the US are NOT rich at all. They are actually given little money to complete their mission.

Landing in Mexico is always a gamble, even for the innocent, compared to Canada.

Not to get off on a tangent, but I believe our border with Canada is a far bigger threat than our border with Mexico.

That's a fact.

Both borders are threats, do we have to wait for a terrorist attack from terrorists that made it across our southern border before we get exicted about it?

No, but of the two, the bigger threat is Canada.

Charlie Brown Field (a/k/a Fulton County Airport or FTY) was my home field when I was flying actively.

It's a relatively small airport with a couple of FBOs, an avionics shop, and one small hangar for the National Guard. (The only folks I ever saw near the NG hangar were a couple of Civil Air Patrol types, and the only planes they ever had in there were a couple of small civilian aircraft.) Longest of 2 runways (not counting 9 left which is for single engine student aircraft and can't be 3,000 feet long) is only 5800 feet. I can't imagine what any sort of terrorists would be doing at this field.

"...the carburator for his ford pinto..."

Well, certainly there wouldn't have been any resultant change in the Pinto's operating performance.

I've photographed airports and planes for years, sometimes the aircraft owners came out to talk, most times no one paid any attention, but only once did a cop inquire as to what I was doing. It didn't occur to me to flee from the owners or from the cop- why on earth would anyone just out snapping photos and minding their own business get nervous if a cop or airport security asked them what they were doing? Why would we even care if security showed up? The cop and I ended up just BS-ing together watching the Nat'l Guard fighters do their thing for a while before he got a call and left.

If you want to get people real excited go walk around on railroad property and see how quick the privately-hired cinderdicks will check you out. When I was a photographer for a local paper I went out to take shots of overturned trains after a tornado. No one was around, or so I thought. The railroad cars were empty, most just boxcars and coalcars. Within about two minutes I was looking at a big black guy with a gun strapped to his hip- railroad security. Running didn't even become an issue, and it didn't occur to me to avoid the security guy as he came closer. He asked my name and what I was doing, let me take some more pictures and made sure I left so he could continue his beat.

Now I'm just an artist who goes around snapping pics for my files of just about everything, and I imagine when I pick up roadkill specimens or plants or whatever, it might make people curious. I have to make sure that sample-taking is legal and be aware of other people's property rights at all times, even getting permission for taking photos of their farms and buildings as a matter of courtesy. (I don't want people to see me taking snapshots of their buildings and make them lose sleep wondering who I was or what I was up to.) I meet people all the time and have yet to run away and no one has ever confiscated my film or notes.

Last time I checked, taking photos was OK... but running away from security is a justifiable reason for them to come looking for you, just as zipping off when a landowner spots you out by his mailbox or his livestock gives the landowner a reason to call the sheriff out to let him know a stranger's been around and to keep an eye open. All this is as it should be. People have as much a right to know who you are and what you are doing if you are out snapping photos of them or the property they are entrusted to protect, as you do to take photos of things that aren't your exclusive property.

Did you already forget your little liberal blurb " As for trashing the Constitution... I have no idea why anyone would want to do that, but if you poke around FReeprland, you will find PLENTY that do. FReep on, -Orion"

You don't think your statement that "FReeperland" posters trash the Constitution is offensive to conservatives?

Asking permission first is the better way for sure. I used to have a pasture next to a City park and two teenagers drove their car down to one of the ponds to collect water samples for a science class without permission. The Sheriff's chopper has a base at the park and when they were going out for patrol, they saw the car and landed in the pasture, then they called my cell phone. Boy, were those youngsters terrified when the rancher drove up. Cops were okay, but to have a cowboy come into the picture, especially one who had a rifle hung in the back window, was something Mom didn't tell them about. I got out of the truck and they just about peed themselves. LOL I probably had my spurs on, I don't know but it was comical. After determining that they didn't cut any fences, I okayed letting them go with a warning about trespassing on private property. never saw them again.
