Take a look at Canada. Quebec wants out and a majority of english speaking Canadians say good riddance. What makes you think that the divide between Chicanos and Gringos isn't as large? Have you lived around these "immigrants"? The children that we are spending a fortune to teach ESL to never use it except in class. Contrast this to most of our ancestors. Even 50 years ago the kids went home from school and taught their parents english. The Mexicans just look on this country as a place to make money. They have no allegiance or desire to assimilate. If you don't believe me watch one US vs Mexico soccer match. How many Americans of German descent do you suppose stayed up drinking to root for good old Germany? How many want a hyphen?

This American of German descent woke up early to watch the game and rooted for the USA. In the days before the US vs. Mexico match, I saw a lot of cars around here with Go Mexico painted on them with shoe polish. I felt like taking a black marker and writing back to between those two words, lol. If they love it so much, go the hell home.

Or how about the Mexican flags on cars that have shown their face since September 11, or how about the Spanish-only taxi services, or how about all the bilingualism starting to show up throughout the southwest. Yep, they really want to be Americans. (Sarcasm)
