They should get around this budgetary oversight like they usually do. Seize property and assets under the guise of the "drug war," then do what they want with it.
It is great when the sword and the purse are in the same hands ain't it?

What happened to their old bunker?

They just need to have a shadow govt. waiting somewhere...so that if something should happen to the current one (God Forbid) the auxillary can just take over... In the mean time have them running a casino somewhere in upstate NY so they dont get out of practice.. :)

The mayor's seemingly impregnable emergency command center on the 23rd floor of 7 World Trade Center - able to withstand hurricanes and bullets - was wiped out when the building collapsed that fateful day last September. I don't want to get picky or anything, but a command center located on the 23rd floor of ANYTHING doesn't sound too "impregnable" to me.

What's the big deal? NYC is already $31,000,000,000.00 in debt, what another $270,000,000.00 going to do, bankrupt the city?

New York State is Number One... in DEBT!
By the year 2003, if present fiscal policies continue, the New York State debt will be over $40 billion. Today, that debt stands at over $37 billion.
Add to that the $31 billion New York City owes and then toss in about $7.8 billion for the Metropolitan Transit Authority and New Yorkers are looking at $8,500 in debt for every man, woman and child living in New York City and $2,050 for every New Yorker outside the Metropolitan area.
Not even free-wheeling California comes close. It is important to note that these figures were posted and calculated before the impact of September 11th World Trade Center attacks, which can only add to the problem.
Take a look at this chart:
Total Taxpayer Supported Debt Comparison Chart

New York State |

$31.0 Billion |
California |
$21.7 Billion |
Massachusetts |

Not to discount the value of the NYPD but do they think their lives are more important than the tax payers they are asking to build a bunker exclusively for the NYPD members? Is it their own lives they are concerned with or the rampant crime that may occurr if the NYPD is mooted by another terror attack? If it is the latter, $270 million can purchase a lot of guns. I trust that New Yorkers as well as other Americans can and will police themselves when necessary.
