The NEA has quite alot of power. Go against their mantra, you will be quickly branded. Just try to stop paying the dues and you will be blackballed and soon be out the door. You will never find a republican school board member stick up for a conservative teacher; filthy politicals.

I use to argue with fellow teachers when they went off the deep end with the "IT REALLY DOES TAKE A VILLAGE GARBAGE". I just avoid it all anymore. Pretty tough when starting teachers with 5th year degrees earn less than kids right out of high school at costco. Heading into another strike come August, don't need more enemies at this point.

Still about 1/3 of the teachers in my district are registered republicans.

Bottom line is the NEA is winning all the battles and the feds are in cahoots with them. More and more money being dumped down the black hole of education and more and more federal control over our schools. Until more conservatives become teachers, the NEA will never change and conservatives will continue to lose the battles over education.

Meanwhile, President Bush invited Jimmy Hoffa Jr. to sit with him at the State of Union speech, and this week he has invited 150 of the Teamster leaders to the White House to beg money from them and find out what he can do to please them. The old story: its all right if unions take money from workers if the union is on our side.

I know a few teachers. One of them told me that line "it takes a village to raise a child". I said cool, does that include the village pedaphile, or maybe the village neo-nazi skinhead, or if your really lucky, since I'm in the village, can I decided on how I want to raise your child. Believe it or not, I have yet to get a real response from any of my friends who are teachers when I give that answer.
