The family didn't change the story. This was reported locally very soon after the abduction. The initial characterization in the media, in the first few hours, was that the threat was directed to the younger sister. That was publicly contradicted very quickly, and reported that she heard the threat to her older sister. She pretended to be asleep, and the kidnapper never spoke directly to her.
The national media have been slow to correct the original mischaracterization. That's all.

I note that you have popped up to "correct" and explain away every troubling aspect of this case- are you working for the family?
Not being snide- serious question.

she heard the threat to her older sister Huh? Why would Elizabeth have been threatened in the way that MK claimed, i.e. that she should not tell anyone or else she would be hurt, who could Elizabeth tell, if she was going with the abductor????

The national media have been slow to correct the original mischaracterization. That's all. You said it. And the gossip- and scandal-mongers on FR on the other hand have been QUICK to jump on every tid-bit, no matter how groundless.
