Blacks and all poor Americans harmed by uncontrolled immigration

Between 1965 and 2000 at least 35 million new immigrants came here, of which 26 million were Hispanics and Asians, which meant, as minorities, they got benefits intended for unemployed poor, mostly inner-city Americans.

While the Bush administration's fervor for increased Mexican immigration and a massive amnesty for illegal aliens is well-known, the really poignant story is the betrayal of black Americans, in particular, and all poor Americans (including immigrants here legally) by their traditional political home, the Democratic Party.

My two main concerns about illegal immigration, besides the facts that it is illegal and discriminates against legal immigrants and the less well off that already live here are that:

1) Unless minimum efforts are taken to make sure that the American social fabric is not excessively disrupted by this immigration, we could be seeing the eventual fragmentation of the US. I see no problem, for instance, with requiring that school children of undocumented immigrants be taught English as a first language if we're not planning to effectively do much about the illegal immigration itself.

2)Mexican politics are notoriously corrupt. I would hate to see that level of institutional corruption become embedded in any part of US politics, say what one might of the current state of our politics.

So much for productivity yielding a higher standard of living from what you say it is dependent on mass immigration and high population growth. Personally I view Bob Prechter's explanations are better than your Ponzi schemes.

Anyone who thinks the blacks and Hispanics are going to form some lasting alliance are crazy.

Correctomundo, especially when the blacks realize that when the Hispanics become the majority, their national sport, basketball will be in jeopardy.

Let's look at the normal stature of a Mexican and compare to any NBL player. See what I mean? It would take 2 Hispanics, one standing on the shoulders of another just to reach the basket and can you imagine an Alley Oop? Well, when the majority of students in schools will be Hispanics of short stature that can not participate in a sport with any degree of competency, it will be eliminated.
Can you see what's coming next? No basketball in high school means no place to recruit for college. Well, if there are no college players where oh where will the NBL get its players?
Has anyone checked the racial makeup of Europe lately? Right, mostly white guys. So, like the Kings in CA with many white guys on their team now, that will be the make-up of future NBL teams if the "college farm system" can't supply the need. However, there will be no need to staff the teams because who's going to buy the tickets to watch them? The Hispanics? No way Jose! Jose is going to the soccer game in the stadium previously built for the now forgotten American game of football. That's right, no more MNF or Superbowl. Isn't Political Correctness great? ;-)

"Mexican politics are notoriously corrupt," says Post Toasties... as the rest of the world is busy this morning reading the latest on Enron, Andersen, the "9-11 Charity scams" (how much going to victims?)... and don't forget the family that threatened to sue their school because their daughter was going to be prevented from graduating... can any nation-state be truly free of corruption?

Of course immigration is needed. There is also the fact that most of these immigrants will work twice as hard for less money. It is also true that immigration does need to be controlled.

If nothing else for the benefit of the of the good, hard working, God loving immigrants who children will someday defend this country with their lives.

Yes, immigration between nation-states should be managed, and encouraged. In the same fashion that the EU was formed, the nation-states of North America should also realize that there is "strength in numbers," and that the future benefit of the economy should outweigh any nationalist pride or racist rhetoric. As the world shrinks, wealth will be re-distributed along with the increased standard of living for all people. Although the traditional "middle-class" of nation-states such as the USA will be reduced, the overall future of the world will be brighter. And America's legacy of free-trade and labor-markets-above-all will prevail around the world. It should be an honor to Americans that people of other nation-states wish to immigrate to their area!

Cecil:The EU growth in immigrant population is primarily Third World non-CHRISTIAN while that of the US is Mexican and Catholic. The implications and differences between the two is astronomical.

Are you suggesting that certain nation-states should view new residents differently, if for example, they do not worship or follow a certain religion? What type of screening net is needed in your view to determine the flow of people from one nation-state to another? Some will argue with you that education level, rather than religious beliefs, play a more important role in terms of immigration tools for success. Americans will pay more, but in the long run, and educated mass of immigrants is worth more than an uneducated mass that happens to follow a certain religion, perhaps? Didn't Germany face scorn for dividing people (and immigrants) into divisions based on their religion? Maybe you forgot.

It's not an honor, because too many of the people "wishing to immigrate here" are parasites. Also, "wealth redistribution" is code for socialism. No thank you.

Some might argue that your calling immigrants and guest workers in America "parasites" is near the realm of a hate-crime.

Did I say that? I hate it when people twist what someone says and/or puts words in their mouth. I simply stated the fact that the cultural clash in Europe is/will be significant, especially given the very low birth rate of native Europeans.

Do you disagree with that? Even leftists in Holland are becoming anti-immigration.

Skeeter- I think you are posing a great question for many of the readers here. Why aren't Anglos reproducing at the same rate as their fellow residents?

I think most here know why this is the case - its not complicated.

Has to do more with social status than ethnicity - the middle class (mostly "anglo") are already burdened to the breaking point with taxes, while those at the lower levels have nothing to lose, and often much to gain, by popping out babies. It so happens many of our recent arrivals belong to this latter group.

The blessing of childbirth (or as you phrase it 'popping out babies') should be viewed in a positive light, regardless of the fact that a large number of babies born in the US are non-Anglo. We are all God's children, as some are fond of saying, and we should all remember that as social-services and health-care as well as education costs show some increase. Property-taxes are the only fair way to fund these needs... because usually property is owned by the wealthy who can afford higher tax burdens. As more immigrating non-Anglos become home-owners, then they too will share the cost. Open borders provide so many benefits (cheaper good and services, cheaper labor markets, higher stock prices for companies) that Americans would be foolish to restrict immigration, or the popping out of babies as you call it.

Ah, but the lucid and informed majority would label my characterization as "accurate". The "some" you reference are socialists who regard the U.S. as a "host" to be sucked dry.
