It seems to me that laws are in place to deal with such contingencies - have you contacted the local authorities upon being presented with such things? Have you impressed upon your local police and district attorney your desire to see violations of public lewdness statutes prosecuted fully? This actually happened in a nearby town, and many are protesting. But the librarians are saying they don't want to check the cubicles to see what's going on, and the police don't want to get involved. Basically, some of our libraries are turning into XXX adult theaters. Great, huh?

In his book, The Case Against Pornography, David Holbrook argues that pornography is connected with the same processes of objectivization that is essential to the Galilean-Newtonian-Cartesian tradition that lowers nature and man "to the status of dead objects". Hmmm, pretentious, pseudo-intellectual double talk, full of claptrap about "alienation" and "objectification." From the style, the author could be a Marxist, or a Jesuit, or a Nazi, since they all favor the same shibboleths:
The [relativity] theory was directed from beginning to end towards the goal of transforming the living -- that is, the non-Jewish -- world of living essence, born from mother earth and bound up with blood, and bewitching it into spectral abstraction in which all individual differences of people and nations, and all the inner limits of the races, are lost in unreality, and in which only an unsubstantial diversity of geometric dimensions survives which produces all events out of the compulsion of its godless subjection to laws.Wilhelm Mueller, Jewry and Science

Truly, it's only a matter of time before such reaches you. Then you will not be so flippant about it.

I can understand your dislike of certain manufactured phoniness. I draw the line at lyrics that include things I wouldn't discuss with my mother. For instance, man in a box, by Alice in Chains would be out. He's singing about being covered in his own feces. It just turns me off no matter how good the musical quality is.
I'm going to bed. Have a good evening and see ya around.

That wouldn't work. She's from Australia, and if they broke up she'd be very isolated there. If he got custody of the kids she'd have nothing. He needs Jesus Christ. Jesus can break those bonds (and others), but he'd have to trust and cling to Jesus like a drowning man trusts and clings to a life preserver. The problem is that he doesn't realize he all alone in deep water...yet.

Well in this case it might not be such a bad thing. The pornography debate really shows ignorant most conservatives are of the libertarian attitude toward vice. Libertarians do not believe that people should ever not be held accountable for their actions if they are freely chosen. If there was coercion such as a loved one's life being threatened then obviously they could not freely choose to take or not take the action. We believe that porn users have to be responsible. If you cannot act responsibility then we would have you punished accordingly. If a drug user cannot provide for their kids, take away the kids. If a porn addict gets caught whacking off in public, lock them up for a few days in jail. We make very few exceptions when it comes to personal responsibility, in that regard we are much less forgiving than conservatives. And rightfully so, free people have to be held accountable for their actions.

Try staying on topic and refute the points made in the article instead of accusing one of the references of being a communist. You libertine nitwits are intellectually bankrupt and can do nothing--it seems--but bait and switch.

Basically, some of our libraries are turning into XXX adult theaters. Great, huh? Then it seems to me the problem, while not being caused by elected officials, is certainly not being solved by elected officials who have been given the responsibility of enforcing the laws as they are written. I imagine you will keep this in mind the next time your town councilmen, local sheriff, or prosecutor appear on the ballot - maybe you should consider submitting your own name as a candidate for one of those positions.
I have a theory that people generally get the sort of government that they deserve - perhaps you will be inspired to seek a local government that is more reflective of your own positions, rather than the one you are currently saddled with.

On second thought, nevermind. Trying to exact meaningful debate from you guys is impossible. Carry on in your "porn is perfectly harmless" utopia. G'Night.

I'm not worried about it because VA isn't well known for its radical cultural shifts. We're very much like the Swiss in that regard.

If she's not willing to leave him and he doesn't leave her, she's probably stuck with a pornography-addicted life partner. She can't have it both ways.
People will not change their behaviors unless they want to do so...and they'll rationalize their behaviors to the ends of the earth in order to justify engaging in their pursuits. (Check out the arguments on this thread.)

The reality is that to change something in a town would require a massive organization effort. There are many such issues. I'm still fighting some in our town who want to impede the Boy Scouts from using public property until they allow homosexual scoutmasters on overnight camping trips with our teenage sons. We have won that fight, rather decisively, but it took a great deal of hard work, time and boldness. I could spend my life fighting battles, but one has to be selective. I am fighting a couple of others now. Perhaps I will add this one too. But I would really prefer to not constantly be assaulted by my government(s). That's obviously too much to hope for these days.

Just $hitcan Windows and switch to either Linux or MacOS X. Force the user to login, dump every HTTP and FTP GET request to a MySQL database and have a few scripts analyze what the user looked at during the week or month. Oh, wait. Instant FBI database on user activity. Filtering software? Oh wait, that tends to block out a lot of Christian, Conservative and Libertarian websites but some how manages to not block out major commercial porn companies like Pink.com, go figure.
To: yendu bwam
Good one. I would still prefer a young gentleman who didn't have to resort to that. Yes, but if you find one, you may end up with no grandchldren.

It seems to me that porn is pretty much in the Dimorat domain. How could one be a true conservative and support something so destructive of children and families?

No fault divorce laws destroy more families then porn ever could. Its just a feminist mechanism allowing women to destroy the family and rob the man with no negative consequences for herself.
