I loved this article and completely agree that much of modern art is just a con job. Thanks for posting it!

Being an artist, yes I agree with a lot of this. I'm a comic book artist and sculptor. I own my own company, and am NOT funded by the Endowment for the arts, or any other government program. I've never even taken unemployment. I've lived off my art now for 5 years. It's treated me pretty well. I work in film, make figurines, and write and draw a new monthly self-published Comic book. In all honesty, A lot of the new Art, Avante Guarde types, are all a bunch of pretentious clove cigarette smoking, cappuccino drinking, hippie wannabes who have no idea about art, save that they can tell people what it is worth to THEM. As opposed to telling the the real workmanship, or technique that went into creating a work. Sure I'm what people consider a commercial artist. However, the work that I do, I create for myself, and if people like it, I'll sell it to them at the right price. Which of course is what the market will bear, and what I have into a piece.

Taking pictures of a jar of urine, with a crucifix in it, is NOT art. Any monkey can do that. The idea, the spark of creativity, is not something that comes to everyone. Some artists, just want to shock people, for no reason other than to give themselves an apparent edge to their work. Me, I could care less. I'd rather shock people with my brain, than with the work I do. I'm a conservative artist, who happens to make money, ON MY OWN I might add, without high paid agents, or government funds. Sure, I'm probably a minority, which is fine. Not everyone can afford my work, but everyone who likes comics, and sculpture, would probably like it for what it is. Artists today, aren't the artists of 500 years ago. Although I would say that I am one of those artists. I make all of the products in my studio, molds, cast resin, cast Bronze, etc. I pretty much do it all. I can also engineer things, and create my own tools. Something which a lot of artists don't do fresh out of college. The reward for ingenuity is gone. If you can find the right person to represent you, that will get your work seen, and sold.

Art today is full of idiots. Most of which are the people who are willing to pay $100,000.00 for a jar of urine, or photgraphs of some artist's bodily fluids. Sure it's neat and all to look at, but what really goes into the work? I would hope that anyone here who sees me at a convention can see what goes into the work I do. I sculpt and or paint at conventions, to show people how I do my work. I have no problems with that at all. In fact, I like to encourage other artists to apply themselves. Everyone can do art, on some level. It's the commitment you have that makes your work stand out. At any rate, I've ranted enough. If anyone here wants to see the work I do, check out the website. http://www.madrobotstudios.com

If you're disappointed, let me know. I need to get a real website.
