Just couldn't help noticing the "brown chirts and black arm-bands" sans swatika.

...especially with a goal like this (from the article in my post #33 above):
... the goal is to have all OMI students, many of whom entered the school reading four or five grades below grade level, reading at or near grade level by the end of the academic year.

Well, all I can say is this: kids from low income, disadvantaged homes -- without fathers and traditional families -- will form their own "families" as they enter their teens, either through gangs or by making babies at a young age. They want to belong to something, and they have nothing at home.
So, either we create and direct the kind of group they belong to, or, we ignore this need -- and wind up with all the inner city problems we have had in this country for a long time. Oh, except now, you can toss in the new problem of foreign terrorists recruiting these kind of unhappy, alienated American youth, a la Jose Padilla.
Consequently, while tan/brown may not be the best color for the uniform, and the arm-bands should go, that's something they can easily change. But turning around these kind of kids, and giving them a real future, is something not quite as easily done.

All the better to absorb the leftist propaganda, my dear-- probably get a good dose of PP (Planned Parenthood) safe-unsafe-safe condom education, too.

No. Learning to read is learning to read. Period. You can pretend that learning to read is some "leftist plot" but you would be wrong on that count. Sorry.

You know Summer, I know that when Brown was gov here in California, he was called Moonbeam etc. but in spite of all of that, I always liked the guy.
Any RAT that refused to have a limo that we paid for, or a mansion to live in that we paid for, etc could not be all RAT.
He also really had the goods on Clinton during the 1992 election campaign, and was not afraid to speak out about the dishonest Hillary for which he was ridiculed of course.

and was not afraid to speak out about the dishonest Hillary for which he was ridiculed of course. Were he only as candid, when Hilly climbed on her broomstick and flew west to fundraise for Davis and other RATs. I don't think any of them would have any trouble accepting money from a dishonest person.

to be honest, summer, i haven't paid much attention to Governor Moonbeam in recent years, but my friend, Hobbes, has mentioned much of what Ladyinred said, in defense of him. i think the goals and philosophy of the school is laudable, but the uniforms really made me think-- ELIAN GONZALEZ... The fact that he riles up the libs is enough reason to make me favorably disposed towards him.

The question isn't
What are Dems saying about Dem Mayor Jerry Brown taking such actions? The question is... Why aren't Conservatives taking great Pains to point out all the good things he has done as Mayor of Oakland.
The Simple fact of the matter is Gov. Brown, would be a welcome addition to our side....his recent governance of Oakland merits more accolades than the entire NE Republican contingent in the entire congress......

Maybe someone can tell me, of the two who is MORE conservative, in governing, Gov. Brown, of Mayor Bloomberg?
Seems to me, The President made time to get his @$$ here to help Bloomberg, on more than one occasion, It's about time he found a dem to embrace on Education, and the reform thereof, that isn't Named Fat Ted Kennedy.

Brown is a throwback to the OLD democrat party, a pragmatic liberal who is honest. He is a dinosaur in his own party, which has been taken over by thugs and thieves.
I think it would be VERY good for Simon to visit this school, and especially for Secretary Paige and President Bush to give it some attention.
Question for all: who do you think Brown would trust more...President Bush or Terry McAuliffe?

Bloomberg ( As IF...) should also get his @$$ out there, just having gotten control of the City school system in NYC, at HUGE cost to the taxpayer. If he wants real results, he need look no further.

Agree. Bloomberg is rather disappointing, isn't he? I am beginning to wonder how he managed to amass his fortune. LOL!

Re your post #47 - Again, sorry. I don't buy it. If you really want to "let freedom sing" then you support teaching kids how to read, unless you want the USA to compete with Afghanistan in terms of who has the most illiterate population. You will never convince me, or any teacher, or any homeschool parent, or any parent, that teaching a kid to read is a mistake.
