Home Depot Inc., the nation's largest hardware and home-improvement chain, has told its 1,400 stores not to do business with the U.S. government or its representatives.

The Post-Dispatch checked with managers at 38 stores in 11 states. All but two said they had received instructions from Home Depot's corporate headquarters this month not to take government credit cards, purchase orders or even cash if the items are being used by the federal government.

I didn't waste time because I bought other things in both stores. I'd never been to HD before and it was interesting. I'd go again. I couldn't find the knobs I wanted anywhere else and these were exactly what I had in mind. I would love more mom and pop style stores to spend my money at, but they are fast going out of existence.

When Lowe's opened their store where we live I was excited. They advertised their wonderful, straight etc lumber and other things. Their lumber is the same and maybe not as good as Home Depot.

AND since when can't a store decide it doesn't want to jump through big government's hoops? I say, way to go HD.

For me and my family we will continue to shop at Home Depot and will look for things we need or just want.

Hey, I absolutely agree with you re: HD's not wanting to become a dependent colony of the Ferral Gummint. And they now get all of my business, humble as it is.....

On the contrary, the Washington DC area is exploding because our government spends like a drunken sailor. Hi-tech firms, law firms, contractors, etc. are falling all over themselves to buy a plot of overvalued swampland and set up shop so that they too can join the "beltway bandit" club and tap into that steady stream of cash. The more the government spends, the more entrenched it gets. Trust me. Washington is basically one huge morass.
