Jakub Berman was the brains behind much of what occurred in that area. He suggested to Stalin and carried out one of the largest relocations of people ever. Poland's borders were shifted to the west. In Polish history, Berman ranks right up there with Hitler and Stalin as a killer. Try finding out anything about Jakub Berman and his reign of terror after WWII though. He is a nonperson in politically correct circles.

Perhaps today it will be easier to find your relatives. I tired to find mine in the late 1960s . No trace of anyone in a family which owned a great deal of property and employed hundreds. All we have is one photograph and a few letters.

Were your relatives from the Polish sector where everyone was killed? It is kind of bum not to be able to find out anything because everything in the whole area was obliterated. So all I have is my grandfather's name and from what I'm told, his nose.
