Would you say Mahony's inability to believe in the Real Presence is not irrelevant to his behavior as exhibited in this article?

Religions/sects/denomination/churches that claim to be Started by Jesus Christ, and are discovered to be hiding pedophiles, keeping the law away from pedophiles, and lying to the laity about pedophiles in the pulpit, and then using the laity's donations to the church to legally defend these pedophiles in court, are certainly not lead by Jesus Christ. They are cults.

I posted this reply yesterday on another thread: "U. S. Bishops Pass Sex Abuse Plan."I have made an addition or two.

The bishops have spoken-

Children may only be abused by the homosexuals who have crept into the priesthood every other day.

I feel certain that many know that these homosexuals (and lesbians) crawled like snakes into the clergy ranks as a result of Vatican II.

Our current, elderly, ill pope could have turned the church around at the begining of his papacy. Instead he deliberately squandered a God-given opportunity and proved himself as unworthy and as complicit as his predecesors John and Paul in damaging the Catholic Church. He jetted around the world to watch naked women dance in African and polynesian settings, busied himself with ecumenical visitations to heathen temples and rode around in what was termed a "popemobile." He degraded the high position instituted by our Savior for which he and the others must explain at the final judgement.

He attempted to legitimize Castro and other fascist-communist thugs by inserting his presence into their decaying countries.

I blame the modernist movement; the foolish, but successful devil's work (by clerics of Rembert Weakland's ilk) of "updating" the liturgy and houses of worship with the scandals that have hit the Catholic Church.

Throw out the tabernacles by shoving them into a dark corner or another room, tear down the confessionals, let worshippers receive communion distributed by a gaggle of laity, in the hand. Make sanctuaries look like theatres where "modern" synthesized music entertains the sheep. They want us to forget that something important is supposed to be happening in that desecrated and gutted sanctuary and that Jesus Christ and His Church is ageless. Our Savior doesn't wear Nikes.

Perhaps this homosexual scandal, among all the other modernist PC problems in today's Church, is what is needed to return the Roman Catholic Church to its historic dignity which must be considered necessary if its members are to achieve grace and salvation.

The destruction of the faith has caused these satan-inspired attacks upon our childrens' innocence. We must never forget this most obvious and widespread attack upon all of Christ's "little ones'" the children of God. Satan and his disciples are not satisfied with these scandals. His aim is the wholesale destruction of the Catholic Church and with his assistants, these disgraced and dishonored clerics, American Catholics have their work cut out for them.

We must pray that Rome comes to its senses and all must consider that there are not legions who have left the Catholic Church, rather the Catholic Church has left the legions.

Is excommunication still a Church practice? And why hasn't it been used here?

General note to lurkers/posters:

While I don't have time to read this article right now, I'll say that when I want
to know what is actually going on in Los Angeles, I read NewTimesLA.
It covers the inner workings of this city MUCH better than the Los Angeles Times.

Up to this point NewTimesLA has done a good job of reporting on Mahoney.
I'm not Catholic, but I think their reporting has been objective and should
be viewed (by Mahoney and his flock) as feedback to nudge them back onto the path of
righteousness.

These are distressing times for American Catholics; I just pray they can cut away the
tumor and save the body.

Further note:
It was "MiamiNewTimes", which I think is a sister publication to NewTimesLA that
covered a lot of the trail of The Talented Mr. Atta and how he and his crew had no
problems with the INS, despite numerous violations.
This was done by MiamiNewTimes last November or December.
This same basic story ran in The Los Angeles Times as "news" last month.
What a bunch of reportorial losers!!!

Oh man...this is getting bigger and bigger. What does it take for people to realize that reform is not going to fix it? Please start studying the Bible and find a group that follows it.

Didn't Mahoney try to wrest control of EWTN from Mother Angelica a few years ago? And wasn't it Mother Angelica who spoke out against Mahoney's pastoral letter?

Your link led to a search site that opened a "Pay Per Click" window on me that I couldn't close -- I had to go into Task Manager to kill the process.

Watch out with those links. This looked like an aggressively intrusive commercial site -- the kind that likes to stick scumware on people's hard drives.
