Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has committed himself to announcing dates for presidential, legislative and local elections, but the process is still fraught with potential logistical and political pitfalls, officials say.
"Holding elections will be difficult with the Israeli army inside the West Bank and Gaza, but we will tackle that problem once we have a date for the elections," said Mohammed Shtayieh, former head of the election central committee.

Arafat will assume leadership wheather he is elected legally or not.Personally I feel he would ideal for the Chief Dogcatcher spot that just opened up in the new PA Government.
