Seven people were killed and several injured today by a suicide attack at the closed US Consulate in Karachi.
Police said the bomb was in a white car that the driver crashed into the consulates guard post, destroying part of the wall. Windows were shattered in both the consulate and the nearby Marriott Hotel, and a number of cars were damaged.
The blast occurred around 11:15 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing body parts scattered about the scene.
It looks like a suicide bombing, a policeman on the scene told Reuters.
Officials said the seven so far confirmed dead were from Pakistan.
It is confirmed no foreigner or embassy staff, whether foreign or local, has been killed or injured, said provincial Home Secretary Brig. Mukhtar Ahmed. No one admitted responsibility for the attack.
The bombing comes just a day after U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld left the country, who was visiting Pakistan to defuse tensions and avert war with India.
