A friend of ours got wind of a teacher at our local high school teaching the horrors of gun ownership. This friend approached the teacher and requested time to address the class and give another point of view. He had to take time away from his job to do this.
It's a rare parent that will do what this one did. Parents are being indoctrinated themselves and they don't know it!!

If he thinks this is bad, wait until he gets to college. This is just the warm up act. The nonsense that's being spread in high school is then accepted as fact. And once they get out of college...

This student should record all his teachers' offensive, unbalanced or otherwise inappropriate lectures, and post them online. Teachers are public servants, and as such the content of their labors should be fully open to public scrutiny.

Admittedly, this is in the over-the-top PC People's Republic of Santa Monica, but there is an enormous amount of leftist indoctrination elsewhere. Logically, one would expect the public monopoly education system to become an indoctrination system for big government. The answer is to give every parent a voucher representing the tax dollars spent on his child's education which can be taken to any school that will accept it.

Excellent essay.

My public high school was actually pretty balanced. I really wasn't aware of it at the time, but looking back on what they taught, at least two of my four history teachers were conservative.

And my advanced placement English teacher, who I always assumed was gay, was a real traditionalist about literature. The curriculum was Shakespeare, Dickens, Austen, Flaubert, Tolstoy, etc. Not Angelou, Morrison, Chief Biglittlefoot, and Manny the Cabdriver.

it is high time for us to realize the very evil threat these individuals represent. what they are doing is mind rape and brainwashing, for evil. period. bullets are fitting for scum who seek the destruction knowingly of our society and nation. and if thats too strong for you, dont worry, YOUR children will be subjugated under this satanic rule because we would not stand and fight. it is much easier to turn on the tv, recite the turn the other cheek parable, and feel virtuous in our inaction.

if you have a kid in public school, you are feeding the system that will ravage minds and souls of millions, and you are partly responsible. there is no way that i would send anyone i loved into a public school such as these.

What he probably doesn't know is that both teachers and administrators belong to trade organizations that are the chief supporters of the Democratic Partyand are therefore in active alliance with the most radical groups in American society.

When I was in second grade, the teacher gace the class a (simplified) list of the differences between capitalism, communism, and socialism. In retrospect, it's obvious that she tried very hard to make us believe that socialism was the best of the three alternatives, as the others are "too extreme" (capitalism's definition may have applied to , say, the 1870s), and like good little parrots, the class voted for socialism as best.

This was IN 1972!!!

This has been going on for a long, long time.

Best thing that could happen is if the liberal mindset becomes so obvious and so overwhelming, kids become conservative out of rebelliousness. The kids raised in the "conformist" 1950s became the hippies , so it could happen.

At Greenwich High School, in Greenwich, Connecticut, the entire social studies faculty are far leftists: the most moderate among them still considers himself a Democrat, but most of them are self-styled 'social democrats' or admitted Marxists. Most of them are excellent teachers, with good graduate degrees (mostly PhDs) from good universities. The problem is that what they are teaching is the radical anti-American and anti-Western views of people like Howard Zinn (his works are required in all honors and AP history courses).

These clowns have tenure and given the administration's and the school board's reluctance to go to war with the powerful teachers union, cannot be dislodged.

As an historian I have supplemented my kids readings with more balanced, nuanced views and have given them the information they need to effectively argue more conservative historical views cogently. It's a struggle, however.

To only educate students about what's important to the political left robs students of their freedom to choose their own belief system based on an open and fair presentation of the facts.

And herein lies the entire purpose of compulsory, state-run and managed "education". It is social engineering at its finest and nothing more. This explains why the communists and marists were the first to institute "state" controlled schools (as opposed to community controlled schools). I'll be re-posting this letter on our web site for further public consumption.

My family and I live in rural "fly-over" country. About half of the local teachers attend the same ultra conservative church that we do. Unfortunately they are not able to teach what they believe but what is handed down to them from the government. I was joking with a 3rd grade teacher about paddling out of control kids. She said it would result in her immediate firing!

The article above just adds another reason as to why my wife and I are going to homeschool our children.

Semper Fi!

Thank God there are a few young people out there not afraid to speak out about what's going on at their schools. Lets hope a few others will listen.

The Personnel Commission is the mainstay of the merit system (a method of personnel management designed to promote the efficiency and economy of the workforce and the good of the public by providing for the selection and retention of employees, inservice promotional opportunities, and other related matters, on the basis of merit and fitness). It is an independent body composed of three persons appointed for three-year staggered terms. Commissioners are lay persons who must be known adherents of the merit principle. The Personnel Commission is responsible for maintaining a merit system for classified employees of the school system and for fostering the advancement of a career service for such employees.

The Personnel Commission classifies positions, recommends salaries, hears appeals of disciplinary and dismissal matters, and protests involving examinations, selection or appointment procedures, and prescribes rules related to a variety of personnel practices.

How could the enlightened allow the Islamic “Leader” onto to campus to share his religious beliefs with the students?

The ACLU should now be called on to sue the Admins of SMHS for allowing the separation of church and state to be breeched.

(I am so old, I remember the nativity scenes on Ocean Ave north of the Santa Monica Pier each Christmas!)

Will the alternative viewpoints be allowed any such latitude, say in hosting a leader of the Christian faith “to explain the splendors of Christianity”?

No of course not.

Everything Liberals accuse Bush of doing and being: “A Dictator” by removing our constitutional rights are being allowed to occur at Santa Monica HS.

“Teachers have a reasonability to educate their students about all our freedoms, not just the ones, they like, and to do so in an impartial manner.”- Pretty inflammatory right wing statement to make to a school system despising multiculturalism and diversity of thought and cultures. Examine the graph “Cumulative GPA by Ethnicity”

You’ll see the school has failed ( with the exception of Asians) in their primary mission to educate the minority population.

The whites are doing well and the school is among the best of the worst High Schools in the US. California ranks at the bottom 2/3rds of US educational systems in the US.

But just as nothing changed after 8 years with Clinton nothing has changed at this “enlightened” High School either.

Also see “Key Findings: Student Perceptions” Only 41% of the students surveyed agreed with statement “I believe teachers care about me.”

In an effort to hide their failure to educate the minority population the admnis at SAMOHI are using their political beliefs of victimization to “teach” the kids how to obtain welfare.

They will need it.
