This is being done Country by Country. How do you get "THEY need OUR permission" out of this discussion. I know you are confused. As am I. Could be I agree with you. I don't know???The UN appears to be use the issue of stopping abuse of women, as a ruse to elimnate the current definition of family.
I think VCRW is saying that by saying we give them permission to stop beating their women, their ruse becomes irrelevant.

After viewing a few of your posts on other threads, I knew you were capable of understanding the whole CEDAW thing. I also knew you weren't a dubunker trying to bait me. Excuse me for needing a thump on the head from Dixie R. to jar me awake to your subtle sarcasm, duh. (not blonde). I've been working too seriously this week on this issue, it seems. lol. I did get close, though, when I sensed we were in agreement, but still stuck.
And, yes, let's send them our permission. Great campaign idea. Print up Permission Slip Lists, get the people, (sheople too, hehe) to sign them, and hand deliver to Koffi in NY!
:=)
forgive my ignorance.

Subtle sarcasm gets me in trouble somtimes, too. :-)Sarsasm ? Me ? I am really concerned that these countries need to fly to New York and pettition for our presidents signature on a treaty so that they can go back home and begin to stop abusing their women. I don't really understand why they feel they need permission from us, it must be a cultural thing, but I certainly give them complete authority to stop what their doing. I hope every American would do likewise.

Interesting perspective. And this is a bit more than being a camp follower. Many of these women would never dream of the temptations they will have to get promotions or to get pregnant deliberately to get out of war. In peacetime, it is easy to think of the military as a stepping stone for one's career.
And, it goes beyond the military. The prostitution mindset is beginning to get a lot of power in every aspect of our culture.

And, it goes beyond the military. The prostitution mindset is beginning to get a lot of power in every aspect of our culture. But the camp followers were not just the prostitutes. They were also girlfriends, wives, groupies, adventurers or just plain workers who were making a living by cooking, washing and repairing clothes etc ... Some were even fighting. Now all of them will get nice shiny uniforms and look smart.
