VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) - A man described by a judge as "an evil monster" was sentenced to 25 years in prison for using a baseball bat, metal pipe and golf club to attack a 12-year-old Halloween trick-or-treater on his doorstep.

The fact that the drug altered his mind to the point where he could not control himself from attacking a child It seems that there has got to be more involved in this loser's rampage, than simply methamphetamine. How much of this stuff did he take, that he was not merely all buzzed up, but actually hallucinated that the child was a bug as reported in the story? Which was yet not sufficient to kill him with a heart attack or stroke?

Seems to me that if our drug laws were loosened, some of the intoxication which now happens via alcohol, would happen via other substances that are in fact less likely to enable domestic trouble. Why we are so hard on marijuana is a mystery to me; this stuff does not trigger violent rampages like alcohol can.
