ET, I think you're onto something. In case any of you have missed the other 57 posts I've made on this point, (LOL!) I have always been curious about the 10 people who were already at the Smart house when police arrived. Yes, I suspect that there was some sort of a "meeting" that took place before the police were called, and my bet is that it was to make plans to cover for someone within the community. FWIW, I suspect that the uncle is covering for someone else......I'm less inclined to believe that he is the guilty party.
Investigators have announced that they are narrowing their search for Elizabeth and her kidnapper back to the area surrounding the Smart home. Cooper, the former FBI profiler, says that indicates police are closing in on a suspect and that whoever took the girl had some sort of affection for her.
"She's kind of become an object of his fantasy," Cooper said. "He's been considering this for a significant time and planned it, and he ultimately staked her out."
That fact has some neighbors living in this affluent neighborhood in Salt Lake City's northeast foothills a little spooked.
"It's creepy," said a neighbor of the Smarts who asked not to be identified.
"That's kind of been our thought all along," another neighbor said. "It has to be someone who knows the area.
"You think that the person's going to be this scary person, but really it could be someone you live next door to, who seems normal," the neighbor added. "There's so many workers around here it makes you think. You suspect everyone."
