Utah Man Sought in Missing Girl Case

Associated Press Writer SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — More than a week after 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart disappeared, police said Wednesday that they want to talk to a man they think may have information about the girl.

They are searching for Bret Michael Edmunds, 26. He is probably living in a 1997 green Saturn with Utah license plate number 266XJH, police said.

Elizabeth was reported taken at gunpoint from her million-dollar home last Wednesday between 1 a.m. to 2 a.m They were not calling Edmunds a suspect, but said they do want to talk to him. They had identified him through a partial license plate number provided by a milkman who had seen a vehicle in the area arround the time of the girl's disappearance.

Authorities said Edmunds is also wanted on two warrants — for fraud and assault on a police officer, Sgt. Fred Louis said. Police said he may have been in the area.

Tuesday, Police Chief Rick Dinse said the investigation was looking at those who had access to the neighborhood or the house, although not necessarily a family member. He said they have received some promising leads in the case.

Officials from the Utah Department of Corrections have given police a list of dozens of names of known sex offenders on probation or parole, but nearly all of them have been cleared, said Jack Ford, an agency spokesman.

Well, I'm from the south and pictures in church directories are very common here. Like school pictures, they are a source for professional quality photos that many people would not otherwise have taken. In fact, I have a nice picture of my parents right here by my desk, compliments of the church directory. (I guess having a pictoral directory helps during the Sunday morning "meet and greet" sessions.....)

I don't want to speculate about him, because I don't know anything about it. But when young men go to get their pictures taken for their missions, they are strongly encouraged to wear a suit and tie, and have a missionary haircut. And the young men go out at age 19, he looks older than that to me. Just MHO.

I think having pictures in a church directory is a great idea. We just don't do it in my area, perhaps other LDS wards do.

That answers my question, then...In these troubled financial times, many families have suffered financial reversals which have forced them to sell their homes.

Lets make it clear to the reader and not a motive!

The father is an entrepreneur, owns his own realty company. He buys homes, the family moves in, they fix up the home, sell it, and move to the next one. I have a brother who works for a house building company, he does the same thing. He is building a home right now, and has a lot picked out for the next one.

It looked to me as though the name and birth date had just been tacked on to the photo for distribution in connection with this case.

The girl is dead, unfortunately. She was likely dead the first day. It is unbelievable how much crap I've read on this thread in the last couple of days. This was a sexual predator who was triggered by some event that pushed him over the line. All that we can hope for now is to catch him and if lucky, bring the girls body home.

No problems valkyrieanne, I appreciated your post, because I didn't realize that their alarm system had problems with it. I'm with you, I'm very concerned for this little girl. I just wish it would be over..and she was home with her family!! Lets continue to pray this comes true somehow!!

Did anyone see Mark Klaas on O'Reilly tonight? Something else seems to be going on behind the scenes. Mark seems to have gotten from the police that this guy Edmunds is not really being looked at for this crime, but that they're just using this situation to bring Edmunds in on some outstanding warrants. Did anyone else get that from this interview?
