10 neighbors showing up within 11 minutes doesn't strike me as remarkable, especially if neighboring houses also contained large families, with some older boys who might well have jumped to help in such an emergency. Imagine if your house was on fire with someone trapped inside, and you called the fire department and then ran or screamed to the neighbors for help. WOuld it really surprise you if within 10 minutes or so, 10 people had showed up to try to help? I've seen minor fender benders near my house where 2 or 3 dozen people had alrady arrived to gawk and/or see if anyone needed help, within the couple of minutes it took police to get there.

I agree. I backed by car over my front wall, had to call the fire department. I had the entire street looking over my mistake within about 10 min. after the fire dept arrived.
