"The fidelity of a dog is a precious gift demanding no less binding moral responsibilities than the friendship of a human being." -Konrad Lorenz, "Man Meets Dog"

I actually think this is a beautiful quote... my "Gun Dog" book is full of quotes just like it... Quotes made to show the deep devotion and friendship between man and his hunting dog. The idea of the relationship and responsibilities between man and the animals in his service has already been addressed in the thread, and I wholeheartedly agree. When we employ them in our service, we owe them loyalty, kindness and mercy and no less. Not because they have a legal right to it, but because we have a moral obligation to provide it.

Clearly many of the ideas that follow that quote are range from "different than my view" to "whacked-out in my view"... But we must be careful, when arguing with PETA types, to accept our responsibility to be humane in our dealings with animals. If we claim the right to do whatever the hell pleases us to them no matter what the suffering... the other side wins more followers than we will...
