Thanks for posting the pic of those roses! I can't be sure from the color on my monitor (I haven't adjusted it right since I got this new lapper from Bob -- my world is attached to my lapper -- but the roses look like a peachy-coral color to me, and those are my absolute favorite roses! Even better than purple, which is my favorite color of all time. There's just something about peach roses and coral roses that gives me a happy heart! (Purple ones too!)

Roses are also my birth month flower -- but they almost weren't! I was born on June 30th -- the day everything expires! (There is no June 31st!) (*G*) June 30th is the end of the fiscal year. Check an elevator permit next time you're on an elevator; I'll bet you 100 peach, coral, or purple roses that the permit expires on June 30th. The year will vary, but June 30th remains constant. *sniff* It's not just elevator permits, of course. Keep a watchful eye out. Practically everything expires on my birthday! How depressing! (The only thing that would be more depressing to me is if I, personally, expired on June 30th. ) June is starting to be a rather painful month as it is -- full of death anniversaries and such. A family friend was just murdered last Tuesday -- he was in a coma from the Saturday before (when he was attacked while at his mailbox, for absolutely no reason), until he died on June 4th. I try to look at it as being the month that my second husband, friends, and precious pets went to Heaven or Rainbow Bridge; it helps that way. Keith, my second husband, was even born in June. He was born June 23rd. He died on June 13th. And my birthday is June 30th. (What is it about those threes?!!)

My precious little Basset angel, Phoebe, went to Rainbow Bridge on June 10th, at the age of 13 weeks. She was a rescue, but we didn't get to her in time; she had parvo by the time we discovered her. We tried so hard to save her, and she fought like a trooper, but she had so many complications, requiring three surgeries on her tiny little body that was working so hard, and she was soooo tired -- I told her that I would miss her terribly, but that I would understand if she just was too tired and too sick to fight any longer. She passed away in her sleep (at the vet hospital, thankfully when Dr. Mike was with her) that very night. I'll never forget my precious Phoebe. But she is with God now, along with my darling Priscilla, who was my best friend for nearly 14 years! And along with my dear childhood Basset friend, Bones, of course!

I hope I didn't depress anybody?! I apologize. Just thinking out loud. I should be happy for them now -- for being in such a beautiful place and free of pain now. I am happy for them, truly. Sometimes I just get all gooey mushy and sad, until I remember that they are in the best hands possible! And in the company of angels!

To apologize for being depressing, I'll post a pic of my very first Basset baby, Bones, with me, in happy times when we were together! I developed the film at school (I only had a contact printer for home, which developed the film the exact same size as the little bitty negative!), which is why it's black and white. Sixth-graders are a bit young to be developing color film, and it was extremely expensive to do so, especially wayyyyyyy back then!

So -- here are Bones and me!

Much love from Beep of FReep
and the entire ROO CREW!

Palo...pinging you to read post 1597, to read about other bassets, and see some bassety pics...

SLJP....I got all mushy also, when you talked about your bassets who have gone on to the Rainbow Bridge...bassets, are so wonderful, and my favorite dog of all time....

I was owned by three different bassets, Jones, Bridgeport, and Helga...they have all also gone on to the Rainow Bridge...and I miss them so....

Helga was our last basset, and she was, I think, my true soulmate of a dog...she stole my heart, and the hubbys heart as well...she gave us 13 wonderful years, and then she went on ahead of us...we miss that gal so much..

Sounds like June is a tough month for you...I will think of you, especially this month, and think of you so fondly for all the love and arttention you have given to those wonderful bassets...
