Yep, been going on a long time. Islamist /Pan Arab Nationalists have been going strong for centuries. The modern problem can be traced to Jimmy Carter and his failure to wield American power to cut the noses of the clerics in Qom in 77-78. Actually it can be traced to John Kennedy/Lyndon Johnson and the failed police action in SE Asia.
At any rate, Arafat. Hussein, Al Saud, Bin Laden are all on the same Pan Arab nationalist team and the sooner we tag them with the "Common Enemy of the USA" title the better.
