Too true! We do need to know. I would say not, or they would say they have it.

I believe the announcement was made today because they were transferring him to DOD custody. That is the big news about this.

I also want to point out to all the people who have been profiling proponents that this is a perfect example of why profiling is not a solution.

His muslim name is a giveaway to justify profiling.

That's a very good point. And there's no reason why a blonde-haired blue-eyed person couldn't have gone over to the dark side, either.

While we're busy looking for arabs carrying tweezers onto airliners, the enemy could be someone else entirely.

Yeah, it'd make me feel better, for sure. What with Arafat squawking about "big explosions" and that Al Quada dude sending out warnings this week, ain't a good feelin, I got.

Profiling is not “the solution,” but it can be a major and effective component of “the solution”.

If 10% of terrorists are not “Arab-looking,” that is still no reason not to acknowledge and act upon the fact that the other 90% are.

Profiling by ethnicity won't do the trick, but we do have to start using the Israeli way to profile. They look not for weapons as we do, which is a waste of time. The Israelis look for the type of person who would fit a terrorist profile, and I hope we're listening to their experts.

I don't think this is a valid conclusion. First, since there is no single solution, the fact that profiling or anything else won't solve the whole problem is not germane. The question is whether or not it will help.

Profiling Moslems will help, just as profiling communists or nazis would have helped during those conflicts.

Profiling Arab Moslems non-citizens will definitely help. So what if that wouldn't have nailed Padilla.

We know there are needles, and we know where the haystacks are... by profiling.

Thanks for the update on the stockbroker with links to Jackson, BTW. I'll tell you where I think the real golden fleece is... come up with a link between the Pakistani ISI's Jamaat al-Islam (dirty with al Qaeda and an umbrella for all of the other Jamaat fronts) and the Nation of Islam. That would link Farakhan to the Shoe-Bomber, Jihad Johnnie, Pakistani Church slaughterers, and the black muslim Jamaat al-Fuqra fringe group that took over the Synanon site in Fresno, just for starters. There are hints.

Jamaat is an octopus of jihad.
