I totally concur with you (VOA)when it comes to the question of Osama's demise! I too believe there is a great probability that he is dead, and that he has been dead for quite sometime now.

However one thing that most Americans seem to do is to mistake the Arab mentality for westernized thinking! These Jehadis can lay dormant for decades... and there is even folklore of them staying low for centuries in the past! Hence it is very possible for someone like UBL to decide to lay low, hidden from pursuers and the like, and even relegating control to subordinates (especially when you consider al Queda is in reality an 'umbrella' terrorist group).

And the reason he would do such a thing is not to recuperate or gather resources. Nope. Simply to lull the world into a false sense of security, and once everyone is complacent and oblivious he strikes! Imagine a tape from UBL after some attack! The ramifications would be quite far-reaching...ranging from his perception as some 'hero' in the Islamic street, to our Federal Agencies being seen as ineffective and useless!

However as i said i believe the person is dead! Still that in itself is a problem.

Most people have somehow tied UBL solely as evil personified, when in essence he is simply a figurehead (albeit a wealthy one)! There are many willing to pick up his mantle, and they have connections that bode ill. For example the Pakistani ISI has had some connections with al Queda, as well with a myriad of other terrorist groups! And being the Pakistani intelligence service they can offer resources that were only dreamt of in the history of organized terrorism (imagine a kiloton level device 'accidentally lost' by the ISI into the hands of some holding terrorist camp).

Then there is the fact that a lot of the financial backing of the terrorists is still in place, and in many cases protected from direct assault (for example the Saudi and Kuwaiti finance support channels are impermeable to the US because we would never insult our 'loving Islamic allies').

The other big problem is that up to now most of the people arrested and taken into custody have been what i call 'mules.' Simply human automatons that serve as either cannon fodder (eg in Tora Bora against the US forces) or as kamikazes (the ones utilized for suicidal strike missions)! The ones i refer to as the 'strategists' as well as the 'financiers' are left in place! Which i find to to be rather foolish since in the Arab world you can find hordes of mules.....multitudes of naive young men and women willing to sacrifice their lives in the service of Allah (or demagogues claiming to be performing the will of Allah)!

However there are relatively fewer masterminds, and even fewer financiers!

Yet up to now we have been capturing people who are extremely dispensable .....mere pawns! And i believe the only high profile target we have is that Zubadyah character! And the rest of the cerebral players and the fat cash wads roam free.... plotting!

And the thing we should know is that we are dealing with people who do not think according to the normal parameters of logic! These are people who are willing to die...even seeing it as a religious priviledge! Meaning that we face a foe who wants to succeed....but at the same time views failure through death as an even greater form of success, going to 'aradise'and receiving the 'gifts of Allah!'

This simply means they are willing to employ tactics that are not only unconventional but are totally illogical, making them hard to predict. For example before 9-11 most 'experts and analysts' would have asserted that attacking the Twin Towers with fuel-laden planes would have been extremely improbable due to the logistics, planning. meticulous execution, and risks involved. According to them it would neevr have happened because no LOGICAL group would have used that avenue....instead they would have expected something 'normal.' However these guys are highly unorthodox, and that may be one of their greatest strengths...the ability to use plans that are completely idiotic to an 'orthodox' mind, but still highly thought out, and carried out by fanatics under the orders of some demagogue claiming divine instruction!

Anyway my point is that although i believe UBL is DEAD, there is a good chance he is merely biding his time. And even though he may actually in reality be dead that is no reason to be complacent since he was merely a publicized figure head! Also we need to lay off the mules and get the financiers and masterminds...otherwise we will still be facing hordes of mindless jehadis. If we get the big boys our fight will be much much easier since most of the Jehadis cannot think or organize themselves efficiently...however we still need to get the shot callers and money cats!

Otherwise it is a snipe hunt!

Check to see if his name is on the Democratic voter lists in California.

IMO, a proper pysop would be to have a (our) very good look alike ( or Industrial Light and Magic) on one tape after another holding a large cross and telling his death cult that he has converted to the True Religion of Peace, Christianity, and that Satan is dancing in the heads of mullahs and adulterous Islamic political leaders. That would bring out Elvis, unless he has left the building.
