When my ex-husband was in the military, the army lost his papers and didn't know where he was, or if he was even awol. They wrote a letter to his father to inquire about his whereabouts. His father replied, "He's your boy now, you look for him." A parent has the ultimate say-so about their children so long as they live under their roof. If a child is rebellious and thwarts authority, a parent can throw them out provided they are of legal age. Only then, are the kids free to say or do as they please. When they join the service, they have a new parent and the rules are laid out before they even enter. If they don't comply, then they can be kicked out! There is no free speech so long as you live under the roof of a parent.
