2 Rock Guitarists Dead In Last 24 hours...Ratt's Robbin Crosby and The Ramones Dee Dee Ramone
AP/Reuters/All media outlets | 6-7-02 | my favorite headache

I am posting this thread if anyone cares to add to it. I am a fan of so many different styles of music and the last 24 hours has claimed the lives of 2 men who took part in 2 totally different rock bands during 2 totally different periods of popularity.

The death's of Layne Staley from Alice In Chains was a waste. A total waste of incredible talent, gone forever due to an addiction to heroin. Dee Dee Ramone from the famous punk band The Ramones died of the very same thing a little more than a day ago. Robbin Crosby one of 2 guitarists in the 80s hard rock act RATT died from a long battle with AIDS, attributed from use of a dirty heroin needle.

Robbin was really a great guy. I saw RATT live with him and he was a great performer. He was also responsible for some of the best licks i.e. Round and Round, Wanted Man,Lay It Down, You're In Love,Back For More, Dance, Dance, Dance,Way Cool Jr., What's It Gonna Be? and much more. Hit after hit from Ratt.

He also dated everyone from Heather Locklear (who didn't?), Tawney Kitaen, and various models and actresses. He had such great talent but it all went to hell by way of the needle. A personality to light up a room. Yes a ton of people in here probably have never heard of him and will just call him another heroin junkie rock star who got what he deserved. But Robbin never denied that.

When he was on Geraldo's show about 7 yrs ago...his hands were swollen, he could not even play the guitar anymore and he had been diagnosed with HIV at the time. But he accepted it and also accepted CHRIST. He knew he played russian roulette and lost.

I am not going to gush over this anymore. I just came home from a 12 hour shift at work to have the news sent to me about his passing. I just wanted to recognize his life in some way because his music was something that was just downright...good.

Robbin is up with Christ now and his long and painful battle with AIDS is over.

R.I.P to the both of them.

Figures you would be in a tribute band, too lame for anything original arent you?

Another one who thinks a band's songs should die with them? That's your right. I happen to enjoy playing their music. I find it puzzling that anyone would have a problem with that.

As for originality, I am still growing on the guitar. I hesitate to assess the originality of what I do. There are very few original artists out there. I write music. I record music. For my own enjoyment.

I take it you are a RATT fan. Sorry if my sense of humor is offensive to you. I should have offered comfort in your time of loss. You poor dear.

Ok. You know what? You are right. It was a horrible, stupid thing for me to say. I regret having said it. It reflects poorly on me, it is probably not the type of discourse the forum owners prefer to see, and it is disrespectful for hard rock fans who haven't hassled me about my personal tastes. My knee jerk reaction to your hostile responses was to respond in kind, but that was not what I should have done. I should have ignored the personal attacks against me, and admitted that my comments were regrettable. Please excuse my remarks.

Im not necessarily a "RATT Fan" but I enjoyed their music back in the day. My point is, every time a celebrity dies and it gets posted here on free republic there is a nauseatingly large percentage of hateful freaks like yourself that have to to say something hateful and ugly. Case in point George Harrison, Dee dee Ramone, Joey Ramone...doesnt really matter who it is. People that gather to talk about a celebrity or musician passing generally do so out of compassion or they were fans. It would be nice to be able to talk about them without hatemongers like yourself hovering around like damned vultures. If you dont like them , keep your mouth shut and move on. If you dont have any thing good to say , dont say anything at all. Didnt your momma teach you any better?

Everyone is entitled to their opinions..I was just curious to what you thought of them before I gathered the entire picture on the talent levels. RATT was a great party and rock band. I despised the hair scene at the time it was huge. Because it took away from Rush and the great music they were releasing, along with my other favorite bands.

As for downhill after Moving Pictures? Man...is there a wax problem in the ears? Signals? Grace Under Pressure? Power Windows? Hold Your Fire? Presto? Counterparts? Vapor Trails? Downhill?? YIKES! Methinks not!

I didn't say anything hateful about the Ramones or George Harrison! Listen, I am sorry. I was just kidding. I used to say I was glad Kurt Cobain was dead, too. I just hated his screetchy voice. I'm not serious. But I took it too far. I admit it. I harbor a hateful grudge against RATT.

I just read your last post after I posted the last statement, sounds like a bit of an apology for hateful remarks. You did tick some people off, but part of my last comment still stands, why do people have to stop and say something like that? I was equally pissed when George Harrison died and several Freepers condemned him to an eternity in hell because of his religious beliefs. I was surprised at your comments considering you are a musician and a guitar player as well, I believe there is an unwritten creed where all musicians should stick up for each other. Peace

I thought Signals was OK. I bailed out when Grace Under Pressure came out (though I did like the album cover.) My brother still likes 'em. He's going to see them on this tour.

Well, I don't give a crap about his musical beliefs. And I don't reallywish him dead. Do I really have to say that? I despised the hair band era. The bands who comprised that period were, to me, shallow opportunistic phonies. I hated--hated--their music. But who knows? He might have been a great guy. Maybe if I'd known him I would say he's a good guy to have a beer with, go fishing, whatever. It's a totally subjective opinion based on his commercial image and product. In fact, I have a buddy who was in a cheesy rock band for 10 years trying to be famous. He's a great guy. One of my best friends. I was just goofing.

enuuff said about that I spose. I played in a band for years and years. I also like Skynnyrd alot. One of my former band mates went on to form a Skynnyrd tribute band called Nuthin Fancy, excellent party band. He now plays guitar for George Thorogood when George tours. When not with Thorogood he has his own gig , "Jim Suhler and MonkeyBeat" . Skynnyrd has had a long string of hard luck, about as bad as Def Leppard.

The hair era didnt seem so bad at the time because it was current I spose, but looking back on it and especially watching the old videos it was quite silly. I was a hair farmer , but luckily "Spandex Free".

I've always liked the song, but never really cared for the lyrics much. That line about Jesus used to bother me, thinking it was blasphemy, so I'd change the channel when the song came on. But then one day I realized it was a nonsense statement. How could Jesus deny His Creator if Jesus is the Creator? So, I'm not so bothered to hear this song. That line showed his ignorance (and mine).

That would probably be incredible talent to people who voted for Clintoon. Personally I think it is incredible that anyone calls that talent.

Hey, no problem at all. I've had my less-than-model online moments as well. And reading your later posts, seems like you and I actually have similar tastes - especially in guitarists. I'm a VH nut as well, and after Edward, it's tough to be particularly impressed with most of the 80's hair bands.

And I've never owned a Ratt or Motely Crue record, either. Usually, if you avoid any band with an umlaut in its name, you're safe. As for my response, I just tend to get a bit torqued when I see such perfectly good bile wasted - bile that could be used on more important targets, like liberals.

Cheers.

Maybe you need to do a better job of plain writing. I'm still not sure what your grand points were when you blasted the guy who said "RATT was some of the worst bullsh*t noise ever imposed on an unwitting public." Your points were lame and I agree with his characterization of the great and wonderful band called Ratt! So what? Everyone's entitled to their opinions on music. It's time to move on. There's bigger fish to fry than to squabble over a dip-sh*t band like Ratt!

Just slightly ahead of D(r)exy's Midnight Runners's "Too-Rye-Aye" (Come-on Eileen) ...

...which is neck-and-neck with Men Without Hats' "Safety Dance".
