Soul for sale to pay off student debt
Electronic Telegraph ^ | 08/06/2002 | Hamida Ghafour

A former student is offering the ultimate Faustian pact by selling his soul on an Internet auction site to help towards his college debts.

Graham Malham, 26, of Newcastle is asking £10 plus "free posting and packaging" in exchange for his soul on the website eBay.

Mr Malham, who describes himself as "a complete atheist", promises the buyer will receive a contract declaring the transfer of ownership written in his blood.

The part-time photographic technician says he needs to pay off the £10,000 debt he accumulated while studying at Sunderland University.

"Four years of studying for an art degree have taken their toll on my finances," Mr Malham said. "I've been selling bits and pieces like CDs to get by. I just sold my mobile phone on eBay. So I thought what else could I sell?"

eBay usually yanks these as soon as it hits the press.

Although I have empathy for the student loan load, I don't see much benefit in procuring an atheist’s soul. What’s the point of that?

Bart sold his soul to Milhouse, Lisa had to buy it back for him after Milhouse traded it for pogs, Alf pogs!

Heck, I'll sell mine. I'm not really using it at the moment. And it'll help pay off my Maserati.

"Four years of studying for an art degree have taken their toll on my finances,"

Perhaps this idiot should have considered the cost/benefits of spending money on a degree with very few prospects for gainful employment.

On one of the TV news programs tonight, they showed a number of graduations across the country. One of the clips showed a "full bodied" young lady carrying around a sign that said "Hire Me!". My first thought was, what was her degree - Women's Studies?

But if he's a "complete atheist," isn't he basically trying to sell something that he would have to admit doesn't exist? Every time the Brooklyn Bridge gets sold, at least both parties believe it is there.

Regardless, I get the feeling he won't take a metaphysical two-party checque.

Re-sell it to a mysterious third party known only as BJC?

We know he hasn't got one.

ROFLMAO! One could always work to pay off their debt. But you are right - what is the job market for "women's studies"? Maybe she could wait tables or learn to type.

Well, I'd buy it, if it came with rights to inscribing his tombstone.

If I had the money I would buy it, in the hopes he would one day change his mind and want it back. A soul is to valuable a thing to waste, to lose, or throw away.

I would barter my soul with the prince of darkness to be a twenty-two year old American fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force, in a front line Spitfire squadron, during the summer of 1940.
