On the older thread--before I found this one--there was some discussion about the 911 call, and how we could hear the dog barking (quite loudly, actually) in the background. That was interesting. But what was more interesting to me--and will likely get me flamed--is that Brenda did not sound distraught to me.

We all have calls like that we can use for comparison. We've heard the calls from people who were faking their distress, like Susan Smith, and the ones from people who truly lost their loved ones. Locally, there was a lot of airplay of a 911 call from a woman who helped to murder her husband--in the call she claimed a masted intruder had staged a home invasion and fatally shot her husband, and shot her in the hand. Her voice tones sounded very similar to Brenda's, and she, too, repeated the "Oh my God" several times (3 times in the local case) in a voice that sounded very rehearsed, more like reading lines than in the midst of tragedy.

I would also like to listen to the 911 again--link, anyone?--to see if Brenda did another thing this faker lady did: This OKC woman was breathing very heavily, I think in an effort to simulate stress--but when the 911 op put her on hold (the recording continued--the woman didn't realize that), the labored breaths stopped too. Like an on/off switch.

And--wasn't there some kind of fracas about keeping the tape out of the trial altogether? Which side didn't want it in, does anyone remember?

i completely agree with you--in fact i was shocked at how calm she sounded during the call--i know if it were me i wouldnt have been able to even make the call i would have been so hysterical- my husband would have to call- in fact, i find it odd that she called and not him (he was obviously sitting right there as she was talking to him and the operator during the call)

I had some real problems with Brenda on the 911 tape as well. I recalled the time my daughter and I had to call 911 because my 8-month-old granddaughter was having a febrile seizure. We were trying to decide if that was what we should do.

I figured it was a convulsion (old term) because she had a very high fever. However, when foamy material started coming form her mouth, I said we better call.

We both remembered that once the decision was made it was like we were admitting that we were frightened, helpless and that this situation was serious. It's almost as if it was avoided in hopes that it would be okay without it.

In contrast, it appears that the VDs were all too ready to get to that step. Had they exhausted all other typical possibilities? And.......since they had reached that point, does it make sense that it took Damon soooooooo long to grasp the "gravity of the situation"?

2 + 2 = 3..........I don't think so.
