But we don't know much about the van Dams. We've not heard if there was a past skirmish with the law. We do know they've moved frequently, and that they seem to live very well on his contract engineer's salary. We know he goes by different names: they call him Peter at work and when he surfs, but Damon at home. It's odd, although certainly in no way illegal.
I have often asked (and been flamed for asking it) if anything similar to this--missing child or molested child--had occurred in any of the places he lived before, while he was living there. I'm hoping the police looked into it, but I don't know if they would have. They cleared both parents, despite the lies, despite the drugs, despite their behavior (6 interviews to admit the drugs and sex that night), they cleared both parents in 13 1/2 hours time and focused entirely on Westerfield. Maybe with good reason--but so far we haven't seen it. The trial is young.
I'm kinda troubled by Westerfield's age and past history. Two marriages? Has kids. Single. 50 years old is a time when most men's sex drive is going down hill. If he was a pedifile child killer, wouldn't there be more signs earlier?
All that drunk and drugged driving going on at the VDs, could a sleep walking child have been run over? Big coverup?
