JUNE 6. 1944 D-DAY. INVASION OF NORMANDY

June 6. 1944, sees the great Allied invasion of France and the establishing of beachheads all along the Normandy coast. Here, American troops pour out of an assault boat and wade to a beach already secured.

Our family had a good friend who was with the Airborne and parachuted in the night before. He was part of the group that fought into the town where the guys missed and got hung up in trees and on the church steeple.

Newport is a great man. Another of my heroes. He is quite and reserved ... but will share the stories. God grant that we can always have such men amongst us.
