They would definately be mediocre. During wartime most presidents have high approval ratings. Bush, Sr. had a 80 to 90% approval rating at the end of the Gulf War, and then lost to Bubba less than two years later.

During wartime most presidents have high approval ratings.

But presidents who have presided over failed military efforts, from Korea to Vietnam to the failed Iraqi hostage rescue aat Desert One to Somalia have not fared as well.

And the failure of Bush I to secure a clear victory with the crushing of Saddam Hussein and the occupation of Baghdad may be echoed by Bush II if another terrorist attack claims another 3000 lives.

GHWB made the mistake of declaring victory and bringing the troops home. His son won't follow in those footsteps.....
