NORFOLK -- A small explosive device was found this morning inside a ventilation building near the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel.

Details about the device were not immediately available, but police said it was not large enough to have caused damage to the tunnel.

An employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation discovered the device between 8 and 8:30 a.m. today. A State Police bomb squad "rendered the device safe," a police spokesman said.

The bomb has been disarmed and does not pose any danger, police said.

More details will be reported as they become available.

No one was injured by the device and traffic through the tunnel was never stopped.

The investigation of the incident is continuing. Police said they have no suspects.

There is only one God. Religions are man-made to suit the individuals.

If there is only one God then the Jewish/Christian God wasted about 4 commandments and much of Jesus's preaching was a waste of time also.

I wouldn't call them a waste, I'm sure they've brought a lot of people comfort.

God says few words and has fewer commandments. If there really was only ONE God then why would he begin the commandments "Worship no god but me" ?

Why would Jesus teach that where your heart is there is your soul also ?

If all gods were merely a different manifestation of the Judeo/Christian God then why didn't God affirm it ? Why didn't Jesus say not only am I the way there are about a dozen other ways whatver's comfortable.

The false God's we choose are not just Allah but they include money, pride, self.

FWIW, the concept that my reason for being a Christian because I am finding comfort" in religion is repulsive to me as well as indicating a certain ignorance regarding what Christs demands of us. Being a Christian is the opposite of being comfortable.

As a Christian, I'm sure you believe that God gave Moses the commandments, and that the bible is infallible. I don't have the slightest idea why God does what He/She does. There are others in the world besides Christians, Jews and Muslims.

I know othewise I wouldn't be bothering trying to explain to you that the God's Tim McVeigh followed (Self) and the God that muslims follows (Allah) are an anathema to the God Christians follow and are impossible to reconcile.

Somehow I knew that you would take that sentence and use it out of context. Sorry, but there really is only one God of all.

I absolutely agree. Too bad McVeigh and the muslims disagree.

I've been hearing on the radio today that the Va. State Police are going to check all bridges again. Apparently, that was done right after 9/11.

They also made the comment that they don't know how long the bomb had been there since it was "dusty".

Which makes me wonder, why these key areas aren't being thoroughly searched on a regular, daily (?) basis?

Maybe this bomb wouldn't have done much damage but it sure would tie up traffic in and out of the area. Not just tourists going to Va. Beach but miltary also.

This whole scenario is making me really uncomfortable.

I would like to bet, that this won't be on my local news tonight.I'd actually like to know every time something like this is found anywhere in the USA.But they'll never do that for us will they?'Lets not worry the public',they think.Well they think wrong IMO!

Invictus is Latin for unconquered or unvanquished. Sol invictues means the unconquered sun. A bridge too far.

This article is from June 6, 2002, but I don't think I saw it the first time around. What's interesting is that the bomb was found in the tunnel's ventilation system. This makes much more sense for a biological or chemical weapon attack than for an ordinary explosive. I'm not suggesting that this was itself a biological or chemical attack, but could it have been a preliminary test associated with such a plan?
