It could be said that there were three 'turning point' engagements in the Pacific:
The Battle of the Coral Sea, the battles for the Solomons, and Midway.
Of these, Midway was by far the most decisive. Midway crippled the Japanese Navy and gave America proof that her enemies could be beaten.
