USS Yorktown launched a successful strike against the Japanese Carrier Soryu, but was attacked soon after by two waves of Japanese aircraft, suffering three direct bomb hits during the first attack and two torpedo hits in the second.
These attacks crippled the carrier, two days later she was finally sunk by torpedoes from the Japanese submarine I-168.
